-blam!- barriers; smash 'em all down!"What? Another Destiny thread? It's probably just about factions. I'm out."
Now, I made a thread about this a while ago, but I had some new ideas to add to it.
Do you think, once Destiny goes multiplatform (I think it's with the first sequel; feel free to correct me), what would you think about cross-platform online play? This could be as simple as just being able to play in a regular matchmaking-type game on your Xbox with people also on a Playstation and PC. It could be as complex as having people on different consoles being in different areas in an open world, but able to interact with other console users in other areas (for example, in an MMO, they would start on different continents but be able to go to each others').
I think this could really break down the barrier between a community that will surely, at least partially, be separated by playing a game on different consoles and also coming from two (or three) totally different communities. I've never been in the PS3 community or any forums relating thereof, and so have no idea how things go on with Sony fanboys and their manner in which they discuss games. Even if they were the same it becomes a Cheaper by the Dozen situation where two similar groups are forced to coexist in a forced manner, and due to never having met each other before, natural rifts are formed.
Sure, the controls and graphics would be different, but other than that the general discussion could be entirely the same. People wouldn't have to just find Xbox players to play with, they could find anybody. This would probably require an in-game friends list because of the complications of different gamertag/PSNUsernameThingy/PCUsernameThingy hosting systems, but Bungie's done that before. Sure, it cost a lot but they've got a pretty wealthy financial backer and if the game sells well, in the server department, money could unbecome an object.
So, what are your thoughts? Despite my convictions against it, I'll add a poll up top so we can get a solid consensus on the opinion of the community. (The ones who bother reading this and aren't turned away by the fact that it's another thread by me.)
edit: -blam!-, I can't change the subject? -blam!-.
