What if they are bullet points from the main story? The Seven Seraphs could be a prophetic arrival of some sorts that will deliver the world from Osiris and his New Monarchy. Think new world order type stuff. Osiris has killed the moon, resulting in a Dead Orbit, and it has been told that the Seven Seraphs will deliver the world from the evil clutches of Osiris. The Free World Coalition is a rebel army, which the protagonist is a member of, seeking his Destiny of either finding or becoming one of the Seven Seraphs. Just some thoughts.

If they weren't factions or groups of some sort, it wouldn't make sense for Bungie to make 6 different shirts, one for each one. A shirt to represent allegiance to a faction is a lot more likely than a shirt commemorating the Seven Seraphs delivering "the world from the evil clutches of Osiris."

But it would make so much sense if they were factions. The Avatars, the Themes, the Shirts, they all allow players to identify and show off their Faction's colors. People can get suprisingly into this sort of thing, you can see the development of "brand loyalty" happening now, despite the fact that we literally know nothing about any of these symbols. I'm sure there are people at Bungie high-fiving right now yelling "CHEERS!"

It just makes too much sense. It's possible that we're wrong, but...

  • 07.09.2012 9:03 PM PDT

Yeah I guess I didn't think of it like that.

I agree that factions make the most sense. But, I do wonder if/how they will be incorporated into the story and multiplayer.

Will we want to do one play-through for each faction?
Will factions be a permanent coince regarding multiplayer experience?
Will each faction be experienced by each player, and if so in story, multiplayer, or both?

questions questions questions.

OP: It would be cool if every faction was incorporated fully into the epic sci-fantasy plot.

I have a feeling that with all of this faction talk it's going to turn into a "team Edward vs. team Jacob" kind of thing : /

DEEDLE LEEDLE LEEDLE DEEEEE

I find this idea more possible than any others I've seen before.

When this game comes out, and if you're right... Just know that someone out there in the world named Billy is awarding you kudos.

Just saying.

If they aren't factions, we can just simply look back and laugh at ourselves.

READ IT.

I won the Star. With this on Week 18.

The moon does seem the most important point of this whole thing... It doesn't matter what the story is... the moon is a main plot point to me.

But yeah, they might not be factions. I'd never have thought of that. Though they are probably factions because that makes the most sense.

Still though, we just don't know for certian at this point.

It just makes too much sense. It's possible that we're wrong, but...

... there also is this:

A prominent Bungie employee showed four different "simple and geometric" symbols to our source that would match each of these trademarks, each in a different colour, one of which was a match for the larger symbol on Barnes' chest in the Penny Arcade video and would seem to bear a close resemblance to a 'Seven Seraphs' logo. Our source, who wishes to remain anonymous and does not work for Bungie himself, says that it was intimated to him that the logos were representative of "factions of some sort", that would match each of the four names above, with each group having their own "base to reside upon." It's also alleged by our source that these 'bases' would be distinct communities to allow each faction to discuss tactics privately.

Obviously there's nothing that proves it beyond the shadow of a doubt.

That's why it's a theory.

smart, interesting, seems out of place.

Official fan of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, (Problem with that?) Halo, and Bungie, also a total gaming junkie.

Pretty sure their factions, considering its a sci-fi/fantasy MMO.

Psssh. That's something a FWC would say.

1. This man deserves a cookie.

2. I just like the symbol. I have no affinity towards dead orbit, and shipping for something we know nothing about is ridiculous. I think if they wanted us to associate with them as factions, they would have given us a bit more about them. I do think they sound like organizations, but we really have nothing to go on.

Don't worry about it guy. I'm sure Bungie isn't silly enough to completely fracture their community into five chunks. For all we know it could be like Planetside, where you choose which of the three factions you'd like to play as when you log in. Maybe you always play as Terran Republic with your clan. But perhaps on Friday, you go over to your friends house to play, and since he plays as the Vanu Sovereignty, you grudgingly put aside your loyalty and join him for the day, a change as simple as clicking a different button when you log in.
