I consider sci-fantasy and sci-fi distinct genres.
-- The science-fantasy genre includes things like Star Wars (the force) and Warehouse 13 (artifacts). They involve sci-fi, but they also involve some element of the fantastic / supernatural. Things that defy science.
-- The pure sci-fi genre includes things like the TV show Eureka!, The Time Machine, Ender's Game (first book), etc. There are no fantastic elements to the universes portrayed within these works.
I would put the Halo games (of Bungie's) in the pure sci-fi category. However, Destiny was revealed to be a "sci-fantasy action shooter," not "science-fiction." I think there will be fantastic elements in the story of Bungies next IP in a way there weren't in Halo or (if I remember correctly, but its been years) Marathon. I do not, of course, have any idea what this element(s) will look like.
Will there be some kind of non-scientific power that exists within the universe?
Will there be an artifact that defies or transcends the bounds of science?
Those are my first two guesses. What do others think? What could the fantasy part of Destiny be? What would you want it to be?
