Please, note the "year, or years" Aka, I was unsure the exact amount of time.
Also, it's just stupid to suddenly go "Oh hey, ONI has a station above halo ring 03, that's where the chapter takes place. We won't ACTUALLY MENTION the damn ring anywhere in the chapter, or how, when, and why ONI has a station here that has never before been mentioned in canon."
Sure, it might be explained in the next book. But to just randomly go "This takes place in orbit of this structure." and not once mention it, or say a thing until the next book is just... bleh.
Like the Infinity and Spartan IV's. Sure, they might not play a major part, if any in Glasslands, but WHY do they need mentioned now with a line basically going "They are completely awesome, but we aren't going to say anything about them."
Because the answers to all of those questions weren't relevent to the scene or story at the time. Parangosky is interrogating Halsey; why would she state the very obvious fact--to them--that they're floating next to a Halo?
They will be relevant at some point, but for now, just an introduction. Bear in mind that everything so far has essentially just been introduction for Halo 4. In the end what matters is that answers are given. When they're given isn't important. Infinity, we know, is being covered extensively in Thursday War. After Thursday War comes out, is anyone really going to care that Infinity was just mentioned in Glasslands?
With the Halo ring, you can argue that the reason Halsey is there is so she can help research Installation 03 while under the eyes of Parangosky. Parangosky is still using Halsey--no one said she wasn't--but she has her under lock and key. But all we can do until we know for sure is speculate. And speculation is the point of this forum. I'd rather small hints and clues be revealed than just answers out of the gate.
I don't hate the ship, I hate how it's described/introduced. I hate how it's magically got tech despite you know, the fact the UNSC hasn't had a forerunner thing to study for 20 years.
They sure has hell haven't have any forerunner ships to study for that long. Cause then Halsey would've been involved (being the TOPMOST forerunner expert), and she never mentions it. Likewise, to reverse engineer systems for the ship, they'd have to have the original. So yeah, I have issue with them suddenly, with no explanation given at all, going "Oh, ONI has a station here for years, and there is forerunner ships on the surface that the monitor gladly let them take apart and study."
The Infinity isn't just a Forerunner ship--people talk about those aspects more simply because they're the most impressive. Most of the tech is Covenant; in fact I'd wager that at the time of Glasslands, all of it was Covenant. It would have been only recently that the Infinity would have gotten any real amount of Forerunner upgrades in it, after Trevelyan was researched.
Any Forerunner tech that might have been onboard pre-Trevelyan would likely be small. A ship isn't just weapons, shielding, armor and engines. There could have been mild upgrades like communications, computer efficiency and so on. Onyx may have yielded any such upgrades. Even then we don't know exactly how much of the tech onboard is Forerunner post-Trevelyan, or even Covenant for that matter, only that at least some of it is.I don't get what's so hard to understand about this concept. I agree. The main thing is we will get our answers, but for now that's not the main focus. This idea isn't exclusive to 343. We see it everywhere. Name drops/revelations/hints/whatever are mentioned, and then fleshed out at a later date.
