By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

How? Mendicant Bias tells John in the final Terminal (at the start of the final mission) that he is sending HIM to the Forerunners. Not anyone else, he's sending JOHN to the FORERUNNERS. Not only did this confirm fully at the time that the Forerunners are alive, having exiled themselves from the Orion Arm of the galaxy after reseeding the galaxy of life, it's the Chief who he sends as his avatar of atonement to them.
How did that end John's story when a revelation of that size opens up the possibility for a whole new trilogy?
I said game-wise, his story might could of ended.
This is what I'm talking about. The Terminals are 'game-wise', this is all from Halo 3.
But I do want to know, are you talking about H3 terminals because frankly, I do not remember reading/hearing that at all.
In each Terminal, depending on the difficulty you'd get a different transcript. Typically, they'd be conversations between the Didact and the Librarian where the former was delaying the activation of the Halos while the latter stranded herself on Earth and talked about humanity and their possible relation to the Precursors.
However, other transcripts come from the point of view of Mendicant Bias who interrupts parts of the story, breaking into the present tense. Offensive Bias split him into 2 fragments - one on the Ark and the other on the Forerunner Keyship, once Truth gets to the Ark then the pieces begin to join together again and he reaches Metastability, the final stage of rampancy. In the end, on Legendary, he realises that he was wrong to betray the Forerunners and wants to atone, he then tells John that he's sending him to them and will keep the path ahead of him safe.
