Subject: Is MS Buying Activision?

Hey, I'm Dark_Farlane. What's up?
I'm a Brony and a big Whovian and is in Beatlemania.
BUNGIE 7/7 FOREVER

Bungie, I heard that the company you guys left is now buying the company you guys are currently partnered with. What happens if M$ buys it? What happens at Bungie? They leave Activision?

I like shorts. They're comfy and easy to wear.

Where did you hear that?

I'll laugh my ass off if MS actually buys it.

No -blam!- eh, well that could be interesting to see. I don't see why Bungie would leave Activison for that though. We will just have to see how this all play's out.

I actually think that could void Bungie's contract, allowing them to find a different publisher if they wish.

How?

Also, LET ME IN ALREADY.

Microsoft would just end up publishing their game instead (supposing they don't leave Activision as a separate company), they wouldn't own Bungie again.

Nevertheless, they'd be together again.

Upon thinking about this, I don't even know why this is in a debatable position.

Even if Vivendi does sell Activision/Blizzard to Microsoft, that won't affect Bungie at all.

Bungie is still going to be an independent company and game studio. They're just in contract to have Activision/Blizzard publish their next several games. AV/Bliz does not own any part of Bungie, so I would hope that no one worries about that. I seriously doubt that Microsoft would ever be able to "acquire" Bungie again.

And Bungie is keeping all rights to this new I.P. that they're currently developing, so it's not like they could have that ripped away like Halo was.

Everything will be cool. Everyone can relax on the speculation train. :D

See you Starside

Well the real question here is if Avtivision is bought out what happens to the PS3 designers at Bungie?

Owning a 60% stake isn't quite the same as owning the company.

True, but owning the majority stake in a company does give one quite a bit of sway...

I broke one of the cords for my X11s because I couldn't get past the final American course in Doritos Crash Course.

As long as Bungie still own the IP it should be fine.

A lot of big corporations require a 2/3 vote to pass anything, though. I don't know if Activision is one of them, but if it is, just a 33.4% + 1 share stake can hold a lot of sway over even a 60% stake.

It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out in any case.

Well if the contract becomes void, I'm sure that they'll either leave Activision and look for another publisher or they'll just try to make another contract. I don't really know how Microsoft buying Activision will effect the contract between Bungie and Activision though.

isn't Bungie already "partnered" with Microsoft... Especially since their new IP will be a timed exclusive to M$ consoles.

I'm assuming that is just because they are familiar with the xbox as a platform making it easier to release on that first.

Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

If M$ does buy it, it'd be pretty ironic.

It isn't exclusive because microsoft payed them, it is exclusive because they have to figure out how to make it work on the ps3 first before releasing it.

And many developers have been quite vocal about how the PS3 is a nightmare to program for.

It all revolves around a divided HDD and the 6 cell processor, and then the fact that Sony doesn't offer its source codes all at once, but in bits and pieces instead.

There's a lot of 3rd party developers who think that the PS3 is more difficult than it has to be.

So we'll see what happens.

But to also address an earlier post: Yes, Bungie will still completely own this new I.P., regardless of who is publishing it. So that's really good news. :D
