Subject: What exactly is "Destiny"

-bow chicka brown cow-

I keep hearing that its either a MMO, or an FPS. I realize that it is too early to know exactly what it is, but not knowing kills me more than anything. Conflicting reports kills me more than that, so if anyone could clear it up a bit, I would be most obliged.

The codename for Bungies new yet-to-be named game. Nobody knows anything about it. If someone does know something then they can't say anything.

No one knows for sure dude.

We don't know for sure, but the Activision-Bungie contract calls it something along the lines of a Sci-Fantasy Shooter with MMO elements.

I'm gonna finish it. Just like Jigga did to the pyramid.

To be blatantly honest, we have no -blam!- idea.

The reason you're hearing conflicting reports is because all you're hearing is guesswork. All you're hearing is guesswork because nobody knows the slightest detail as to what Bungie's next title could be- genre, story, etc. So for now you're out of luck mate. Just like the rest of us.

This thread would have appealed to me more if it was written with crayons.

I broke one of the cords for my X11s because I couldn't get past the final American course in Doritos Crash Course.

I heard it was going to be an MMORPGRTSFPS with Beat em Up undertones.

Key

It's a science-fantasy shooter with MMO elements. There are going to be 4 games in the series, with 3 expansion packs.

The games will be coming out once every two years, with expansion packs coming out on the off-years. Earliest estimates have them working on this game all the way back since 2007, but more have agreed that they must've been doing so since at least 2009.

The new avatars we've received (the white triangle on red, the black circle on white, the black eye on yellow, the white "FWC" on blue, and the white 7ish thing on black) are speculated to be factions in this new game, a theory given even more fuel by the confirmation of "MMO elements".

We also have this helpful resource courtesy of SonicJohn, as well as this database of links concerning Destiny and its relative speculation courtesy of risay_117.

Finally, on Bungie Day 2012, Bungie had this image at the bottom of the Bungie Day news post. It was discovered that these are Geomantic Figures, and DeeJ has told us that that is all that we need to know "for now".

Also, as far as when we can expect information about Destiny...

All I want out of this game is kick-ass armor customization like in Halo 3. I didn't like Halo: Reach all that much...

I hope it has none of that rubbish. If I wanted to dress something up then I would play with Barbie dolls. Just my opinion.

Eh, there's nothing wrong with giving players customization. So long as the aesthetics don't conflict with the gameplay, people who don't care what their dude looks like will be happy, and people who care what their dude looks like will be happy.

Afterall, it's not like taking some artists off the task of making multiplayer armor is going to magically give Bungie the time to make one or two more campaign levels or something. Don't worry about it guy.

I think an example of this would be TF2, the hats fiasco has kind of gotten out of hand it took away from the real goal of the game a little. Yet again, it IS TF2 which shouldn't really be taken seriously.

The game content is unknown, but the contract specifically states that it will be a series. This series will release one Destiny game per two years.

The contract requires that Bungie releases four 'Destiny' games. The contract also requires that Bungie releases one 'Comet' expansion-type software for each Destiny game sold. The Comet releases most be released one year after released. The schedule should look as follows:

2013: Destiny
2014: Comet
2015: Destiny
2016: Comet
2017: Destiny
2018: Comet
2019: Destiny
2020: Comet

From what we know of, each Comet will be for the Destiny game released on the previous year.

Except that we do know the Genre as it was explicitely stated to be a science fantasy shooter with MMO elements. Not as exact as you would want, but it narrows it down a bit.
