Carnage Swat origionally posted something on the vortex being "the great journey'. He is definitlly onto something,
However my theory runs along the lines of not the vortex itself being the transporter, but once you get into the ark it transports its inhabitants to another galaxy or a safe zone, clear of the blast radious of the Halos.
It seems plausible that the covenant may have misunderstood the great journey in not that it brings them to covy heaven, but a it is a safe zone or protection from the Halo activation designed to get rid of the flood.

There are some questions that remain, such as where did the forerunners go?

If the purpose of the halos was to deprive the flood of food, then this would certainly take time to starve them out. would this mean that the forerunners would have to stay clear ofthe galaxy for some time till it was purged.

Also How did the flood survive on the Halo Rings. If the Purpose of the Rings was to Wipe out all of their food, then how did they survive. HIbernation?

Rember Guys this was origionally CARNAGE SWATS THEORY i just hought that strting another thread to expand and refine it would be helpful.

What do you guys think Expand if you like.

The Flood survived because they entered a dormant state. *see the level where 343 is talking to you as you fight your way through the library in H1*

The rest however, is up for speculation

i had a theory about Gravemind being a forerunner at one time 100,000 years ago, and it led to the flood maybe being a biological weapn kind of thing that doesnt really need anything to live,it just infects so i can spread.

Then what is the purpose of the halo rings destroyign the floods food source.

they could just enter a dormant state until some food source eventually arrives whre they lie dormant.

The rings really have no practical purpose then

word, I was wondering the same thing about the flood? My guess is that they're like fungus... even if you kill all the sentient life, the flood still can produce spores that can stick around for millenium in a hibernating state. My guess then, based on the dude who posted the thread "speculation and lies" (it relies alot on the books) that Ackerson found the HALOS, start excavating and they accidently released the spores, infecting the excavation teams.

Theres evidence to this fact in both Halos, but HALO 2 is the real proof. On the level Quarintine zone, theres tons of human weapons and crates all over the place. No way an assualt team would carry all that stuff. Plus, theres tons of huge ditches, so it seems likely humans were there digging around. Also the first flood you encounter are all humans. Somebody else explained this really well, if you can find that thread.

Also, anyone remember the 100,000 year WAR level right before Q-zone... anyone else find that name kinda fishy?

Also, Mr. Hunterm90, I was just wondering, whats your explaination for the vortex then?

This is way out there, but I was thinking earlier, what if the Halos act as accelerators for the slipspace? The ARK sends a beam out to the closest Halo, which redirects towards another HALO and gains maximum speed to propel the forerunners across space. Perhaps the Halos served a duel purpose, to get the forerunners out of this part of the Universe and then the Halos as well as the ARK destroy all sentient life to stop the flood
