Subject: When Quoting . . .

Old School Gamer and Proud Member of the Seventh Column

Some include the entire quote in their response while others include only the name of the person they are quoting.

Why?

And doesn't it make it a more tedious process whereby you are required to hit the "quote" tab and then delete the quote except the name?

Posted by: IRISH 249The post might be really long, and I wouldn't want to take up half of the page for one quote.

To be on the safe side, I prefer to remove the text in case the post is rule breaking.

I am so disillusioned. .

I quote the entire post because it is easier. Unless the original post is rather large. Then I'll cut it down to just the relevant parts. But I never quote just the name.

Some people like to change other peoples quote too.
I know that sucks.

I usually quote the whole thing, just so nothing is misunderstood due to lack of context.

I usually get pretty pissed off when someone puts the quote after the reply. That doesn't even make sense.

I like to
Post by: [Username]when the quoted post is right above my reply.

I also like to reduce the quote to relevant information, sometimes, especially when there is multiple quotes or it's a large post.

Come on over to Moving Up for your primary help and Q&A source.

"A wizard is never late, nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to."

I either quote everything if that's what I'm replying to, or I clear the quote and leave the necessary section remaining. For example, if someone had multiple questions in their post;

Does anyone know anything about Destiny yet? When are Bungie going to reveal some details? I've been gone for a long time and I have no idea what's been going on... Also, any news on Bungie day? Yeah I missed that too

If I only wanted to answer the last bit, I would quote & respond:

Posted by: Example
Also, any news on Bungie day?

They just gave us some new Avatars and stuff

Not a great example but you get the idea.

If I'm replying to points or a smaller post, I'll leave it in there (after deleting the space above the quote box I'm starting to believe was NOT unintentional!). If it's a really long post I'll get rid of it because it's annoying to have to scroll so much. It isn't all that much of a mystery.

If I see a quote I really like, I'll quote it and then attribute it to myself.

Sometimes, I like to not quote the post at all and make everyone guess to whom I am replying.

Wait... is that allowed?

More on topic, it is either to save space or because it is over 5 quotes.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

Sometimes, the quote is too lengthy, so I include the name only.

everybody listen to mac2po he is 100% right

I usually just break up the quote if there are multiple questions or topics to be answered.

If the quote is too long I'll just use the persons name or quote the important topics and answer that.

Sometimes I like to speak in quotes

like this...or...

"" " "" " "" """"" " " ""

or...

"I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!"
"Your winnings, sir."
"Oh, thank you very much."

All three of these translate to the fact that I dont like it when people quote a chain of several quotes, only to comment on the last one. I wish they would take the time to only quote the last person.

But then again, I actually read threads in order, instead of just the last post.
