Subject: When Quoting . . .

When I'm quoting someone I usually leave it all in there, unless it's an extremely long post, then I'll use just the name.

It all depends. If someone posted a large wall of text, I only quote their name. If I am replying to only a small section of the text, I only quote that one small part.

When quoting one of my pet peeves is people leaving that extra space at the top. Bugs me. And I leave the quote itself alone.

I like to quote for the sake of quoting.
and if people post something I don't like, I'll quote and edit their response. Posted by: x Foman123 x

Why?

And doesn't it make it a more tedious process whereby you are required to hit the "quote" tab and then delete the quote except the name?" (IRISH 249 P1)
I prefer to quote using MLA citations.

I like to quote multiple times to get to one point in the post.

  • 07.13.2012 9:05 AM PDT

I usually quote what I'm responding to. For example,

Blah blah blah blah bleh blah blah blah blah blah blah blah....

Blah blah blah blah bleh

See?

Sometimes I like to wear dresses.

Sometimes I like to quote people and make it look like they said something they didn't.

Preferences, I suppose. I post only the name of the person if:

-The quote is way too long

-I want to address my reply to them.

Also, properly posting their name is slightly slower and we prefer it to be in a quote.

Hey I am a big Bungie fan ever since I played Halo 2. I love the series, I love Bungie. I have made a few Bungie logos in my metal shop.

Why does it matter.

It doesn't. I was just curious of peoples preferences. Similar to whether you quote on top or below your response. People have strong feelings about it and I thought I'd put the query out there.

You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

I like to delete some words and move others around so the quote is completely agreeing with me.

If I'm replying to points or a smaller post, I'll leave it in there (after deleting the space above the quote box I'm starting to believe was NOT unintentional!). If it's a really long post I'll get rid of it because it's annoying to have to scroll so much. It isn't all that much of a mystery.
If I see a quote I really like, I'll quote it and then attribute it to myself.

Forman you should really reevaluate your position as a Master Forum Ninja. Deleting posts whenever you want and telling lies to The Community doesn't sound very professional.

See? That was easy and effective. And since no one replies to the same thread twice the original poster won't know what hit him.

I usually don't trim/delete text in a quote, unless it's the original post. I usually leave the entire quote so the post is not misinterpreted. If there's a lengthy post and my response is based on specific text, then I'll make an exception and trim the quote.
