Okay, I just thought up this idea after finishing halo2. Now, if i'm geussing right then that giant thing on the halo 3 trailer was forerunner which could mean thatt Earth is the ark. Great. But the thing is, if you believe the bible(which is religous, like the covenant) then noah built an ark to save them from the FLOOD. Now what I'm guessing is that humans are actually descendants of the forerunners. They built Earth ie: the ark, activated the halos to kill the flood. So the ark is the only place where you are safe from the Flood. Anyway, post tons of feedback.

I think it's possible that the structure in the trailer is the Ark, but I don't think the entire Earth is the Ark. With that said, it is possible for the Flood to get to Earth.

Why not, Earth could be the ship in the sea of space, if you catch my drift. they'll probly be able to come to earth but there must be a place where you can be safe from them whilst all the halos are activated. I can just see the ending being insanely epic and suspenseful, i'll probly fall off of my chair lol.

I've heard many different theorys about how halo will end and this is by far the most and I say most believable considering it ties into both the human and covey side of halo, very keen.

after thinking I came to the almost exact same conclusion, put it below to compare...I thought I was the first person with this idea but it has been concieved weeks before, sorry bro you aren't the first but it's the thought that counts, props.
Edit: yeah, pretty close

Think about this in biblical terms, since we know how much Bungie loves to make refrences. In the Bible, the Ark was built by Noah to protect a certain number of people from the great flood.

The Ark as found on earth in the Halo storyline could be used to protect a certain number of humans from the Flood.

What if the forerunners designed an artifact that could withstand Halo's blast, allowing a select few people to survive? They may or may not have used it, but considering the worsening situation of the flood infestation of the galaxy, pretty much the only way to stop them is to activate the remaining Halos; those who did it remotely from the Ark would survive the blast and, consequently, the Flood. It may sound like a stretch but I firmly believe it will happen since there seems to be no other way to stop the Flood.

ok well basically the original poster, it's a good theory, it's also one of my theories so we agree on that... With the teleporting thing, sure it could teleport to a place that is outside of the blast radius...
What about perhaps that Earth is just outside of the blast radius, which would make sense having the ark work just outside so earth wouldn't be affected by the Halo's

...only in The Flood

I somehow don't think the thing in the trailer is a forerunner, but I do think that all of Earth is the Ark. LOL *SLAP*
