They're perfectly fair. Use common sense.

Also, 0/10.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Perma bans CAN be appealed and people have had them appealed mybe a few months after getting them. Usually you have to talk with Achronos about it.

They do get overturned but if you are perma banned then usually it is something pretty bad.

Are you going to elaborate or just continue to use vague, arbitrary logic? When people ass-kiss like that the mods' egos only get bigger.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Perma bans are fair. Just make another account and don't -blam!- up again.

Trying to appeal a ban is not. The mods don't care, they start thinking themselves all mighty and even dare you to try and appeal with a higher power, laughing at your attempt... which will in the end never do anything most likely out of pure laziness and simply say ''it's only a couple of days''.

They're just unjust. It's cruel. As humans, our nature is not static and people change over time. To ban someone forever for something they did one time is simply not fair in the slightest. We need to give people second chances. Bans can't even be appealed. The mods are deceitful, immovable, and uncaring.

How are people like Foman and Recon supposed to set examples for the Community if they permaban everyone? It's immature, stupid, and I think the option to ban permanently should be removed from the site.

What do you think?

Perma-banning is done as a final offense type of thing, reserved for repeating offenders and just blatant disregard for the rules which govern this site. It's completely fair, you just don't like it which is why you made a thread about it.

One final thing, would you like to play a game?

I remember the time Just Another Fan permabanned me for making a parody thread about toes. Was my first offence too.

Good times. Good times.

They're completely fair. If a user proves that they are incapable of following a relatively simple set of rules multiple times, poses as a threat to Bungie through the content they post on this website or any other justifiable reason, they've broken the agreement they made when they created their account and are liable to have it suspended.
So what if people change? A permaban is generally at the end of a history of warnings, users in question of the opportunity to learn the error of their ways and change them multiple times in advance.

Permabans are a rare occurrence, and a tremendous amount of thought goes into them because of what they entail.

Can you explain exactly how they're immature or stupid?

I'm gonna finish it. Just like Jigga did to the pyramid.

Your opinion in the way this site is run will do nothing to change it.

Exactly. It's done in such a half-assed manner that look, the site even claims they're not possible. Usually appeals are only granted when
a) the mod in question is drunk, or
b) the mod in question feels like playing the merciful warlord

When a user gets a ban that severe, generally they're trying to get banned.

  • 07.13.2012 6:14 AM PDT

Recon is many things, but he is not immature, stupid, or unfair.

The rules are pretty easy to comprehend. If you're unable to abide by them, there are consequences. If you don't want to be permanently banned, follow the damned rules. Pretty simple really.

I feel this is a lost cause trying to sway you back to the light of the Septagon, so I will ask you once again (to quote an infamous mod)...

Exactly. It's like they think their e-peen (that no one cares about, whatsoever) will shrink if they shorten a ban... or accept an appeal.

or they'll send some kind of auto reply to your appeal, which addresses none of your concerns. I don't care if you don't accept my appeal, but at least take the time to write a reply. It's like a massive "-blam!- you" to receive an auto reply which isn't relevant at all.

Yes, yes. But that begs the question: Would it? Does shortening bans have a direct effect on e-peen length? Or is it just a myth?

x0x x0x x00 0xx 0x0 x0x 0x0

I have seen you future

Perma-bans are completely fair. They exist as a way to deal with people who absolutely refuse to follow the rules, or do things that are extremely inappropriate. They can be appealed, there's even a process to appeal them linked in the rules. It seems that everyone in this thread who is claiming otherwise has a specific problem with a moderator or is condemning the system based on anecdotal evidence. Either way, the problem isn't that permanent bans exist.

Someone got permabanned and is mad. Its one thing to make a mistake and get a ban but if you got perma banned you did something WAY out of line.

If bans can truly be permanent after the new hawtness, I'd really like it if the mods were more hesitant before permabanning.

How are people like Foman and Recon supposed to set examples for the Community if they permaban everyone?

This inspired a handfull of responses:

1. The Ninjas don't permaban everyone. They save that hammerstrike for the people who exhibit a blatant disregard for community harmony.

2. How will the Ninjas set an example if they can't permaban?

3. I receive a number of permaban appeals, and my resulting investigations have yet to turn up someone that didn't really deserve it.

4. Permabans are a service that the Ninja's provide to protect upstanding citizens - such as the original poster.

5. Assuming people do change, they can always change their Internet handle and emerge reborn under a clean identity. This is not an endorsement of alt accounts, but a reminder that permabans are not a death sentence.
