It's just another example of the Jiralhinae's Tactical Ineptness.
The Plasma pistol is widely regarded as the most versatile of Covenant firearms and anyone that passes it up is a fool in my book.
I could go as far as to postulate that the Plasma Pistol's sheer weight in production is why Humans were brought to the brink of extinction. Was versatile.
CE: versatile stunner (getting overkill on Grunts before overheating, stunning Grunts and Jackals with overcharged shot, stunning Elites to go around them and assassinate), absolute shield killer, tracking worked from longer range, could destroy vehicles
H2: pea shooter, shield killer, best tracking in a Halo game
H3: pea shooter, absolute shield killer, vehicle stunner, pathetic tracking
Reach: stunner (inferior to CE), shield killer (except Jackal shielding), vehicle stunner, improved tracking (from H3)
Versatile in CE.
Reach only restored 10% of the PP's former capabilities. Seriously, it takes like 3 overcharged shots to kill a Grunt while it takes 7-8 to kill an Elite. The overcharge takes goddamn long for players while they take an instant for Covies. The overcharged shots are abused by Covenant in Reach. Killing Grunts with the plasma pistol's main bolts very quickly requires them to have been weakened in advance. And the Reach PP overcharge is as useless as the H3 PP when it comes to long range use.
The PP has becoming nothing but a sidearm or anti-vehicle weapon. It used to be versatile, unique, and powerful.
Anyways, I thought Grunts preferred the needler (it is a fact that the CE needler is the most versatile of them all).
