Subject: Ask a Network Engineer

"The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit,
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it."

With the advent of "Cloud Computing", what are your thoughts on how it will affect not only your profession, but also video gaming in general?

What da -blam!- is a Network Enginerr? [sic]
Reiterated because I have the same question. ALso, why did the Halo games use a host system? I probably don't know what I'm talking about, but doesn't that create more lag for players?

You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

Where did you go to college and what advice do you have for someone going into a similar field?

What separates an experienced Network Engineer from an inexperienced one?

What is the most interesting thing about your job?

Talk about your social life. Are most of your friends Network Engineers from college, coworkers, friends you met in High School, etc. ?

Thanks DeeJ!

I've heard that Bungie likes to have a very open office, is this only for the game design team, or is everyone (including Network Engineers, Security Engineers, and Web Team) all in the same general area?

How big of an issue is IT Security within a game development company? I'm quite interested in the field and am currently pursuing a degree (and certifications), however I've only read about general IT and ICS security. I haven't much of a clue as to how the field differs in a game development company.

What advice would you give to those who are currently pursuing a related field, and would like to some day have the possibility of working in such a prestigious game development company?

Coffee or energy drinks?

Sorry if I went a little overboard on the questions. I've always been interested in articles like this, but I've never been able to ask anything that I really wanted to know. Now I have that chance and decided to take advantage of it, although I was a little confused if this was in response to a request of mine to learn more about the Server Security Engineer position (which is why many of my questions were security related).

How many lines of code go into tea-bagging?

well about two lines go for the program to recognize a button or key being pushed down and two more lines for it to recognize said button was released. Then about a couple lines for the program to use an image to associate on a screen. Couple lines for animation code.

Tea bagging is complicated action to program as are all other actions in a game
