So sorry, but this forum really has gone to hell. I think Jman's created a thread with a similar air, but...I don't think it got the point across.
Since when do people flame others who come to the forum for help? I mean, not everyone knows EVERYthing about computers, there is no excuse for you to flame other members simply because they don't know...when a Beta was released, for example, or what features will be on a specifc game. I see people being flamed for the most trivial of reasons, not knowing what features will come on the next OS or game, or what features exsist on current games.
Then, there are those who post in bad grammar and spelling. Is it too much to ask to utilize those skills you learned in school and type in coherent sentences? A spelling or gramar lapse every so often is acceptable and understandable, but when every post you make uses the same difficult-to-read tone and manner, it only leads to trouble. Shorthand is excuseable on IM, but this is a forum, completely different from what your IM is like.
Another issue of contention in my mind are those who try to correct others. While it is justifiable to correct someone, pointing them to the right forum, it is NOT justifiable to flame someone (i.e. call them names or insult their intelligence) because they posted incoherently or in the wrong area. Simply correct them, don't call them names.
This is not just the fault of any one single person, but I have seen this over and over again, from members all across the board. You know who you are. I don't expect an apology or even a response, but I DO expect to see change around the forum.
When I joined the forum, you could waltz in and ask a question, even a "stupid one" such as, how to install something, without being flamed, and receiving encouragement and advice along the way. And now, in order to get even a little advice, you must know almost everything that has happened under the sun. Now I ask each and every one of you, what happened to those times?
I'm disappointed, I really am.
