"What's the line now between advertising groups and community playdates?" - seeing as I couldn't fit it all on the title.

I am somewhat confused with how things have changed since Deej arrived.

Before, anything that was advertising playing together was to be posted in the Classifieds. Nowadays, there seems to be a huge grey area regarding that particular type of thread.

We have examples ranging from scheduled and official carnage events to not so scheduled somewhat unsuccessful Halo: Reach gamenights.

The reason I ask this is that I run a Minecraft server with sam_da_man_2008. Some of you may have seen him as community carnage organiser, others may not have any idea who he is.

Now, a player on this server has come up with a great idea of Rescue the Shovel, Cough, Deathcon 5 cough, a game where players are thrown into a castle to find one shovel amidst hordes of monsters and killing each other.

But what if I want to play this game with the rest of the community? Can I post that kind of thing in here? Are we allowed to make threads about this kind of thing so long as it is getting the community together to play via any medium?

Hopefully someone will be able to aid my understanding.

And, if the answer is NO OF COURSE NOT YOU DOOSH, then should we be able to?

Community playdates have been given the go-ahead, groups not so much.

Key

I think it's ok to be put here if it's open to the whole community. If you're lookin for a limited amount of people to do a specific thing (looking for 3 awesome players to play SWAT with me !!!!), then it's more classifieds territory.

But if a large amount of the community and, more importantly, anyone IN the community can participate, then it's discussing the Bungie.net Community.

The ugly little truth about the Classifieds is that they don't work. The Classifieds is nothing more than a moldy, ignored purgatory where advertisements are sent to die a lonely death.

Your best bet is to get approval from the moderators/webteam(deej or ach).

Can't get approval from moderators for threads

The first bit? I figured that was always the case.

My philosophy is if I'm hazy about it crossing the line, best to run it by a mod first and gather another opinion. The Community Playdates were okayed even before DeeJ came to this site. As long as you run it by those who have actual say (ie: thread lockers or webteamers) and they give you the thumbs up then you should be fine. It sounds like creating a group for what you are talking about is a better idea.

Oh there already is a 900 strong group, but that's not the point. It's simply to have this one gamenight that I'm talking about.

I had a discussion with a moderator prior to this thread who explicitly stated that they could not say anything that would influence my decision about whether to advertise it here or not; hence this thread instead.

In your case no, simply because it is not 2009 anymore. Playing Minecraft after 2010 is just bad.

Sometimes I look up into the sky and wonder why I have no bananas.

Funny that you say that because there is a group with more than 900 members here on bungie, and it's still very active

That's like saying Call of Duty is good because it sells loads.

If you wanna do a playdate on a non-Halo game (at this point) you should look to DeeJ for the "okay". Simple as that.

And as for Halo "playdates" there should be some point to it if you're going to post about it in THIS forum. AKA: Hai guiz com plai Haylow wit meh cuz I wunna be a Inheritor!!!!

Perhaps.

But Deej is not necessarily going to be responding to every pm/request he gets; what then?
