Ok, so I just got reach. Popped it in the disc drive, loaded up the first campaign mission (the cutscene only one) and it plays fine. Then when it tries to progress on to the next mission: Disc read error. Tried going back to lobby and directly loading second mission, finally got it working. Enter game, and it's just the first cutscene in the helicopters playing on repeat (regardless of whether I watch the whole thing or skip, it just goes back to the start of the cutscene after).
Then I tried matchmaking. First game: Disc read error while entering the map. Second game: Disc read error while the match was ending (after game, before credit screen).
Then I tried installing it to my hard drive, now it gets really interesting. The bit that it plays while starting up the game (before the REACH screen, the bit with planets etc.) is replaced by a completely green screen. When I try to enter campaign, there are no maps available. They just don't show up. At all. Tried to enter matchmaking: The anniversary map playlist is the only one that appears, and I don't have anniversary edition. Same happens in firefight.
I've tried the disc in a friend's xbox (his is a new slim one, mine's an old white one)and it works absolutely fine, and other games like mw3, bf3 etc. run fine in mine.
What do, halo?

Edit: I've tried cleaning the disc, clearing cache, formatting the hdd, everything short of a new reach/xbox. I'm not enthusiastic about that option.

RIP Bungie Service Records. You shall be missed.

Clean your disk.

1. Clean it.
2. Install it. If it still fails see 3.
3. Buy a new Halo: Reach disk. If that fails see 4.
4. Buy a new Xbox. If that fails see 5.
5. Give up.

"What are we holding on to, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for."

Return it and explain the problem. Sounds like the game is defective. Has this ever happened with another game?
