Hey I am a big Bungie fan ever since I played Halo 2. I love the series, I love Bungie. I have made a few Bungie logos in my metal shop.

Also a Ball pit conference table.

This isn't Facebook. We don't need it. It could be abused.

None of those are valid reasons. I really dislike the "this isn't Facebook" argument because no one can come up with anything to back it up other than "I don't like Facebook."

Just sayin'
While I don't just simply say, "this isn't Facebook," it's my opinion that some Facebook features aren't suitable for some sections of this website because the purposes of B.net and Facebook are different.

For Facebook, and even for the file share parts of this website, there's a good reason to find the most popular posts. You want to see what's popular in the community, or a particular subset of it because you're probably going to like it, too.

For a vast majority of the forums on B.net, however, that's not how I use this site. If I'm opening up a thread that asks a question that I want to see an answer to, I don't want to see the most popular response. I want to see the most correct response. In many cases, I feel that it would be far more appropriate to add the kind of functionality seen on many tech support forums where a user can mark a certain answer as "correct" so I can see what the actual answer to the question was.

So, while I usually state it much more clearly than just "this isn't Facebook" my argument is that "this isn't Facebook; I'm here for a reason different than the reason I'm on Facebook, and as such, there is a different function that I think would serve me far better than a like or thumbs up/down option."

Largely in giving the person who asked the question the ability to show the correct answer. If the OP marks an answer as "correct" then hopefully that's because it's correct. If everyone who read the thread gets to "like" posts, that's fairly vague. Sure, some people will like a correct post, but others will like the most entertaining post, or the post their friends made, or the post that won the tangential argument that spawned off of the OP's actual question . . .

Basically, instead of giving a post a vague sense of popularity, it clarifies the post's specific purpose and that it's accurate, not just well-liked.

It would be a neat experiment.

Though i would say, there would need to be control. Some threads do not need it. Plus it must relate to the post. And if something has huge amount of thumbs up, and is the answer, it can go to the top.

Yet at the same time, abusing it, will incur you a ban on thumbs upping any post, which then goes to a normal ban.

We will though need more mods, or a special group to deal with this.

We may need new icons for the threads. For example a new topic that needs answering. Then if someone posts an answer, and a decision has been made, that could be pushed to a second reply, and the icon can change to answered. Kind of like locked, but not really. Bumping and not adding anything could be frowned upon.
Or it could be a special thing that some users get. Those who abuse it lose it.
