The flood have a very interesting life cycle and I thought I would share it. It may help develope some new theories. Some of you may already know it, or have guessed it, but I got this word for word from the book, "The Art of Halo: Creating a Virtual World" by eric S. Trautmann.

"The Flood appear in three common forms. The Infection Form, which swarms over a victim and consumes its host, replacing the host's biomass with the Flood's super-cell biomass.
The Host is rapidly transformed into a Combat form. The host's brain is chemically blocked from all but autonomic systems-keeping the body alive as it is devoured/converted.
Combat Forms that have been damaged to the point where they are no longer combat-effective are converted into Carrier forms- mobile incubators for more infection forms."

It also goes on to say these small amounts of info:

"The flood infection form is the largest entity the flood can create without directly using other biomasses."

"The Flood have full access to the host's skills and memories as long as the host's brain was still intact when it was taken."
---->>>Doesnt this mean the Flood know the location of Earth without having to ask Cortana?

"The flood infection utilizes its host organism's nervous system and calcium store to create forms it needs to reproduce and fight"

The Gravermind:
"The Gravermind is one of the more shocking moments in Halo 2. Discovering that tjhe flood is not simply a mindless virus comes as quite a surprise. The Gravermind can be thought of as a cross between the Flood's logical evolution and a queen ant. The Gravermind is literally built from the bodies of its enemies and its own fallen warriors reassembled into a massive, tentacled, and intelligent entity, trapped somewhere in this new Halo."

There, sure you already knew some of it, but maybe you guys don't.

Yeah same, plus the source is pretty good since it actually includes an intro written by Jason Jones...

Um, the covenant found out the location of earth during halo 1. Read the books. It says that when they captured keyes, they eventually got it out of him.

I did not mean the covenant, I ment the flood...meaning that Gravermind wouldnt need to question her about that. So, what exactly does he want to question her about?

Also, I do not recall that from the books. I know they already knew the location and had a fleet en route that was destroyed in first strike that doesnt add up with the game where they did not know that Earth was inhabitted by mankind but whatever.
