Subject: Inadvertent Ban or Warning

Old School Gamer and Proud Member of the Seventh Column

We know some on the boards actually intend to do something that will result in in a ban or warning from a mod. Some may even create an alt account to stir up trouble. However, there are others who may actually do something that they did not intend to go against the rules and get a warning or ban for said action.

A couple weeks ago I posted enthusiastic approval of a recent current event of a political nature. I got a warning.

Thing is, I didn't even think about my post breaking a long established rule against posts of a political nature, but I was clearly in the wrong.

So my query for the community is, have you ever gotten a ban or warning for a post or other activity on the forum that you did not intend to break a rule, but upon reflection, recognize it clearly did?

This is NOT a place to bellyache about how the Ninjas were unfair to you. This is you discussing a post you made on the forums -absence of malice -and getting a warning or ban, that upon further reflection you rightfully deserved.

I've Only Been Warned For "Taunting".
Bans On The Other Hand...

I'd say that about a majority of my bans. I think my trail-and-error technique of understanding what to post and what not to post is the reason I haven't been banned for a bit.

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

All of mine were well deserved, but I regret nothing!

Come on over to Moving Up for your primary help and Q&A source.

"A wizard is never late, nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to."

My first, last and one-and-only warning was from creating a map-sharing thread on the Halo 3 forums about 2 years ago, a month after the account was created. Looking back, it's incredibly embarrassing and stupid so yeah I definitely deserved that warning.

I made a thread about the community in the Flood. I got warned for being "off-topic" and told to take it to the community forum by Qbix.

I made a similar thread in the Community Forum. I got told to take it to the Flood.

If I get banned or warned, oh well. I know it will happen again, unless I stop posting completely. I post too much to not get caught up in the net that is our wonderful rules again eventually. There's simply no way to avoid it.

I know what you'll say: "It just takes common sense!" There's no such thing, so that bit of advice is useless. And even if there was, what seems like common sense to one person might be completely ridiculous to another. For the phrase "use your common sense" would only work if we had the power to read the mods' minds. It's their common sense that decides what the rules are, not ours.

So. Freaking. True.

With both my bans I didn't intentionally break the rules, but I know I did now.

Half of what I say is true. The other half are also lies.

A few off topic threads, but I was new.
