Subject: Have we lost "The Classifieds"?

Come on over to Moving Up for your primary help and Q&A source.

"A wizard is never late, nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to."

I was just about to start recruiting for a new group, but I have a problem; The Classifieds forum is completely empty and devoid of life. How are new groups supposed to grow if there are no ways to recruit other than PM (which can get very annoying if you're targeted by lots of recruiters)?

Any chance of a revamp after the new hawtness?

This is discussed here pretty routinely, yes the Classifieds are dead. It is hard for groups to get off the ground and we do all hope for something better in the New Hawtness. That's about all I got.

Or you could post about how dead the Classifieds are to TRICK EVERYONE INTO LOOKING AT YOUR THREAD ABOUT YOUR NEW GROUP

I'M NOT FALLING FOR IT

We can only hope... Well thanks, it was worth asking!

Quote from Confucius

By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.

Yep its been dead for a long time

I suggest they should just combine the gallery and the classifieds into one to get more numbers

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Classifieds either needs to be redone and refreshed or deleted and a new way to recruit for groups made.

Yeah that's what I thought, a new way to recruit for groups would be great. PM'ing can get very tedious, and it can be annoying for people on the receiving end.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

It is a shame, people chose not to use the resources and forums that are available to them. The attitude of "it is dead" turns people away. It is not Bungie's fault, it is the user's fault. Or, it is evident people aren't looking to join a new clan or group right now.

Nothing needs to be re-done and fixed, people just need to learn to use the forums available to them or to not use them at all.

No they don't.

The way the Classifieds works needs to be restructured. It shouldn't really be operating similarly to other forums in my opinion. I guess we'll have to see when the site update comes.

GGGGGGggggggggggggGGGG

We should have a weekly/monthly check-the-classifieds day.

"If only, if only,"
The woodpecker sighs,
"The bark on the trees was as soft as the skies."
While the wolf waits below, hungry and lonely;
Crying to the moon,
"If only, if only."

Idea to help the classifieds.
Have each member fill out a simple questionnaire asking about things they like. Have each new group fill out a simple questionnaire about what the group is about and such. Then Bungie could implement it as an ad on the side which would point out new groups or small groups that match your interests.

ISU Cyclones!

It's probably not going to be very easy to form new groups when literally there's no reason for new members to be coming in yet.

Classifieds will need to wait until the darkness is gone before they start any kind of revival.

But if Bungie is already redoing and fixing things with the new hawtness, then why not give the classifieds another look? It's no inconvinience to them, they want to create their website in a way that stimulates activity, and it's very clear that the classifieds aren't working the way they should be.

It's simple really. Why should the classifieds be built upon the same forum system that all the other forums use? Forums are built for discussion, but that's the problem, discussion doesn't happen in the classifieds whatsoever, because there really isn't much to discuss when all the topics consist of "HEY JOIN MY GROUP!"

Furthermore, because only 25 threads are displayed on the front page, and because discussion doesn't occur within the threads, your group advertisements will quickly fall off the front page and essentially cease to exist, as nobody ever goes past the first page. This forces group leaders or their members to constantly bump the thread up so that it can continue to be seen, or to constantly recreate the thread, both of which are against the rules.

So what you're saying is that a system where you create an advertisement for your group and then 24 hours later that advertisement is gone is a good system to work with? It's our fault for not taking advantage of the classifieds? Nonsense. The system doesn't work, and there are a variety of ways that Bungie can reimagine it so that it would do a much better job than it does right now. Making the classifieds it's own thing rather than just a forum that is repurposed for advertisement would be a grand start.

Just drink a beer and everything will be ok

Replace the banner ad on the side with something that scrolls through the groups that are currently in the spotlight.

DeeJ has mentioned that he's been testing it maybe a month ago or so. Beyond that we know little.

“Oh, it’s a little bit of everything, it’s the mountains, it’s the fog, it’s the news at six o’clock, it’s the death of my first dog, it’s the angels up above me, it’s the song that they don’t sing, It’s a little bit of everything.”

How do we know for certain that DeeJ is not the New Hotness?

I don't think we have, I go on there every now and then.

In the discussion of groups, outreach of groups, and finding groups...

I think they way we can search for groups could be much improved. We can search by name, founder, and location, but none of these (including the name) usually have much to do with what the group is, why it exists, and what it does.

I would like to search & organize groups by a group's goals, purpose, and content.

This could be done by having part of the group registration process involve selecting from a list of things that could describe your group. Those selections could then be searched by people looking for certain types of groups.

This could be incorporated into the classifieds somehow, or the existing find-a-group feature.

Group tags. Except limit them to a reasonable number so people can't just copy/paste the entire dictionary in there.
