In the last moments of Halo Reach when Emile is shooting the phantoms and banshees with the MAC... why doesn't he help Six on the ground? He could have clearly gotten one of the marines to fire the MAC.

DeeJ's Challenge

You're implying that the Marines can aim...

Because Marines don't have energy shielding nor do they have Titanium-made armor. Besides, Spartans are pretty much superior in reaction times and aiming.

Hey I am a big Bungie fan ever since I played Halo 2. I love the series, I love Bungie. I have made a few Bungie logos in my metal shop.

The job of shooting the phantoms was more important than helping six. Plus marines can't aim

And try to shoot banshees with grenade launchers.

Precisely. Emile has energy shields, and powered titanium based armor, meaning he would have been far more effective against the covenant troops dropping in than the marines.

.

"Happiness is like glass, you might not always notice it but if you change your view and then that glass will sparkle when it reflects the light."

It might have to do with Marines not being able to operate Mac Cannons. Spartans were given training on how to operate most ship weaponry although I am not sure how difficult it is to operate a Mac Cannon.

It's because:

1. Non-Spartan friendly AI in Reach have poor rof. They're as bad as Carter
2. Emile wanted to be a sniper but Bungie gave him a shotgun
3. Emile said he was going to avenge Jorge his own way. While firing, he fires on the behalf of the other teammates as well.
4. Just imagine if he had the rocket launcher during the -blam!- Mongoose ride. Then we could have had Scarab battles instead of Scarab scenery.

A single shot would have disable any marine in the Onager, so it would be useless. Besides, Six was more than able to clear the area below.

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

So Bungie could make it out that Emile actually contributed something to defend Reach.

And so they can have him smack talking some more about giving respect to someone who's dead when he never gave them any when they were alive.

Erm, "For Jorge!!!"
argh, his words are as meaningless as his character.

Emile could just shoot the dropships out the air before the release a ton of brutes, that would help six out, if you've ever gotten to the mac cannon early you know it's possible to shoot them and kill everyone inside before they even reach the ground. Pisses me off that Emile is just shooting the phantoms that pose absolutley no threat to anybody, and letting the other ones drop off tons of enemies.

Sure doesn't look like superior aim when he let all those phantoms through and sit around dropping troops off.

Sure doesn't look like superior reaction times and combat awareness when he took an eternity to load the shotgun after the first shot on a Zealot because he spent so much time talking and not checking his radar to watch his back.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Remember when you were sitting in the MAC gun getting blasted by plasma? How long do you think ordinary human flesh with a bit of body armour would have lasted in that chair?

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

The Marines probably don't know how to operate it.

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

A lot of good answers, but at the same time, you've got to ask yourself: if a marine can't operate it, who was i made for? It's not like we see any specialist on the battlefields, ever. Although, there aren't a lot of ground mac guns either.. maybe just this one, and it required a Spartan to use?.. It's Reach after all; the planet of lost armour abilities..

EDIT: yeah, Sigma617 got it right in the previous post.

Why wasn't it operated by a dumb a.i, or something? The answer is obvious; it was supposed to be a thrilling gameplay element, but still, it kind of gets in the way of logic. I'd much rather just have defended it from the purple zealots, after Emile failed to.

Probably because it was just set up, and I doubt there was a dumb AI on hand designed for those type of weapons.

I do note in this topic somebody forgot the key detail of the fact even IF Emile had stared at his motion tracker (No evidence that he was ignoring it), the second Elite A: Dropped down DIRECTLY under the phantom as it passed, meaning it was disguised by the massive blip of the phantom on the motion tracker. and B: It was moving slow enough to not appear on the motion tracker.

Seriously, you can walk (standing up) and still not appear on the tracker.

Jorge and Emile were more like brothers then rivals. You see brothers and sometimes even close friends making fun of each other and seeming to be hostile, but in truth respecting and trusting the other.

If you honestly believe that they would be in a team together but not respect one another, you are crazy. Teammates have to trust one another, and if you don't respect the other guy, why should he trust you? Things aren't always face value.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.
