Yay dedicated servers. Now if i can hear that there getting rid of the the rrx yy rrx glitch out of it (im ok with it in halo 2 xbox becuase its hard to do) I'll be a happy camper. Its just going to be too easy for macro users to abuse it (or just anybody playing really).

Great news! A server browser and support for dedicated servers! Thank you!

One more request: please, please, please, please make the Field of View (FOV) adjustable, or at least widen it to something playable (at least 90 degrees). Halo 2's FOV on the Xbox is too narrow for close range fighting. It's too easy to lose track of people at close range. Plus the lack of peripheral vision makes many deaths seem random.

GREAT, so you can afford dedicated servers for PC gamers who don't pay a subscription fee but not for xbox gamers who pay 40 quid a year for the privilege? That's OUTRAGEOUS

If you want to know if Vista will work on your PC run the test. On the main page to the update there is a link "about Vist" Click it and you go to a page that tells you about Vista. www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/default.mspx
here you can download something that will scan your system to see if your system will work with Vista

Ok now I have actually several questions myself, I just started getting back into playing Halo PC again. The controller for PC does work but is drifty and kinda feel like it needs to be calibrated or something, will it work better on Vista?, or a different controller coming out? Another question, In Halo1 on PC I like you can join into games already underway, will you be able to do this on Vista?, The test I ran for Vist said my video card (ATI X1300) will work for Windows Vista, what about Halo?, It also said they would have text Chat, will they build a feature for Voice? or will you have to run your own program like skype?, and finally my last question for now... they said some new maps, what about the old maps from Halo1? That is one of the reasons why I went back to playing Halo PC, I loved the old maps and game set ups they have online.

Now that Vista Beta is out, how about a Halo 2 Beta to go along with it? :)

So... would it say, be possible to create a halo 2 map with the editor on the pc and then send it to you and your mates 360's? because that would be pretty sweet!

Can I play on the Vista version of the game against players on the Xbox?

"No, we are adding Vista-specific features to the game that will not be compatible with the original Xbox version. We wanted the game to be the best it could be on Windows Vista and did not want to be limited by backwards compatibility with the Xbox version."

But in the very next sentence it says.................

"If you have a friend who is playing on the Xbox you will be able to invite them to your game on Windows Vista, or send them messages, just like you can today on the Xbox 360."

Or am I somehow not reading it correctly? I mean, it really doesnt matter, but still.....LOL

Actually I played Halo for the PC for about a year before I ever touched an Xbox controller. Though I agree that the Xbox is the way to go, especially in terms of the controller setup, there are probably quite a few folks out there like me who cut their teeth on the PC version first.

This is just going to leave all the xbox users alone since the PC is a much more common thing people have.
If they are going to have dedicated servers for H2 PC, then they just have it for Halo 2 Live too. Plus the map editor, because that will make a lot of Xbox live users who play Halo leave the first and original and most important Halo 2 world.

Not to mention some new "Halo 2 PC" forums will probably show their ugly faces up and it will be filled with spam of peoples own made maps for download.
This will also leave the Halo 2 forums empty, because again PCs are more common.
On my Special Edition Collectors Halo 2, it states, XBOX ONLY. Wtf is with that? Might as well call yourselves a bunch of liars.
Xbox & Xbox 360 need Halo 2 because it's something special that you can only get if you have a Xbox or 360.

I haven't seen a great deal of mention about the thing that (in my opinion) made Halo a true breakthough innovation in the first place. Cooperative play! How many of you remember the first time you brought your baby Halo CD's home and (after beating it yourself) sat down with a sibling or friend and tried to beat the game together? That was a wonderful feeling. My question is, since GEARBOX fouled up the PC port of HALO, is if this VISTA port of Halo 2 will incorporate cooperative modes either in net-based games or Local Area games. I think that would be a stonger selling point for the game to aid with the crippling fact that users will have to spend close to the amount that a normal XBOX costs now, just to enjoy Halo2 in the first place. Windows XP retail is 199.99. I wonder how much Vista will cost? I also wonder if Microsoft will do anything to the beta version of Windows Vista when Halo 2 comes out.

We are implementing a game browser that you will be able to use to find the game you want to play. This will also be the place that you can manage your favorite dedicated servers. You will be able to find games based on performance of the host, game type, where your friends are, favorite dedicated servers, and others. Look for more details on the game browser in future developer diary entries.

Hah...I have no problem with MM but this really the way that Custom games should've worked on H2 XBox. Why it wasn't (beyond maybe the fact that MM *couldn't* be allowed to fail) is beyond me.

Believe it or not, we'll be paying more than you did. So yeah, go back to your xbox.

You see, when we PC gamers got ignored, you guys weren't very nice. Now that we are finally getting the attention we deserve as fans of bungie you think its fair to leave us out? Don't you realize that PC is capable of certain things that xbox is not? Exactly how do you expect to model a map with a controller? Eh?

Yes well...Xbox gamers have been playing this game regardless of stanbyers, modders, bridgers and every other problem. We have shown our support for Bungie...what did PC gamers do? Nothing. How does Bungie repay all the hours spent in blue screen and all the ranks lost? By giving PC gamers dedicated servers and new maps...and a map maker!

Great. Now I will go back and continue to avoid playing Team Slayer or any other ranked game in fear of being cheated, while you get to start fresh...with new maps...and never have to worry about standbye or bridging. Yea..."PC gamers earned this"...yea right.

The least Bungie could do is release the new maps to Xbox users...perhaps as a consolation prize to be used in custom games only.

Sorry about whining. I have always been supportive, but this is lame.

To all the people getting their panties in a wad over Bungie paying for dedicated servers, keep in mind that the vast majority of dedicated servers are paid for by individuals and clans who have sponsors. It's not like Bungie is going to be running thousands of dedicated servers for every single player out there. Bungie will probably run a dozen or two and leave the rest to the community, just like it was on Halo 1 for the PC.

You said there could possibly be new maps. Will they be available to download for the Xbox? Will the map editer be available for download? Does this possibly mean there could be a map editer for Halo 3?

You haven't been ignored, when we got the original halo you got to play online, we didn't, not only that they threw in a few new maps and weapons. halo is a great game to play and you PC gamers don't appreciate it. I would do anything to play the original halo online on the Xbox.

Bungie is a smart company, they will be able to figure out a way eventually get the map editer on the xbox or xbox 360, we may not get it for Halo 2, but Halo 3 will be on the Xbox 360 ant there is a lot of potential.
