I officially hate Bungie and Microsoft now. They're going to completely abandon the original Xbox by the end of this year. Sony and Nintendo aren't doing that.

So why did you implement a server browser for Halo 2 Vista, but not for the Xbox version?

It's such a shame really, I would have had a much better time playing Halo 2 for the Xbox if I was actually able to CHOOSE a public game I want to play. With the Xbox version however, I have to choose between Matchmaking (which I hate), and Private Custom Games (Good private games are rarely available).

Hopefully with Halo 3 for the Xbox 360, you guys implement a Server Browser.

I'm really intregued by the "Live Anywhere" stuff. Got any links where I can read a little more on it? I'm intrested in being able to have it intagrated into my cell phone and stuff, and It'll be nifty once Vista ships to have it on my tablet PC. I'm running it on that and my Desktop now, And I don't see any 'Live Anywhere' intragration... yet. Then again, it's still using the XP sounds too. I want to hear these 'composer created' sounds Vista's gonna have :)

What stops Halo 2 Vista players from having 30 boosting accounts? Is there any restriction on free accounts? How will it be enforced?

I completely agree, that is one thing i love about other games is that i can just join random rooms, whenever there is a gametype i create in halo 2, no one joins my room. also now adays its almost impossible to find someone on you friends list who is playing an open custom game, why don't you give us these features bungie? all you have to do is make it available for download! Also when are you going to give some more info on halo 3, i check the xbl marketplace every day looking to see if you got some thing out there.

  • 06.15.2006 7:28 AM PDT

Will it be free becuase i just bought a new computer and it has all the requirements for it but i have to wait for my next pay check to come in. So is it free?

Because they're next Gen systems arn't out yet, duh. It's the way of things. What ever happened to the Sega Dreamcast? Abandonned. Nintendo 64? Abandonned. PSOne? Aban--well, very crummy support, etc.

Halo 3 (31st), ODST (14th) and Reach (4th) Mythic Conqueror. (Mythic is Solo, Legendary, All skulls on + scoring on and no deaths/saves).

Staff Writer and speedrun record holder at highspeedhalo.net

Ignorance is the true enemy of all things.

Rocking Bungie.net for over 8 years!

I assume (read: Hope Bungie are paying attention) that only games played through an automated matchmaking system on Halo 2PC actually count towards your level. Allowing people to set up their own rooms with their own settings and waiting for people to join and just beating them defeats the WHOLE point of the original Halo 2 MatchMaking system in the begining.

By the way, when can we get some screenshots? Or, when can we know when we should get some screenshots of Halo 2 on Vista?

I can't believe how many people are -blam!-ing about H2PC. 99% of what was in that news was already known about. The only thing was the dedicated servers. Which every PC game has anyway.

Won't there be a slight bias between players using Vista and Xbox 360? Say, using the the keyboard and mouse on the Vista may prove better in online play against an xbox 360 user than using the controller on the 360. This imbalance might prove fatal. Consider it.

Why the hell don't Xbox gamers get dedicated servers???? That is totally unfair using dedicated servers for Vista players while making us Xbox gamers play on crappy host servers.

They are not taking a "shat," on me, I already have an XBOX 360 with Halo 2 and plan on getting it for Vista. Besides, it is another excuse for an upgrade. Some may call me crazy for buying the same game twice, but I have no problem shelling out the clams (so to speak) for such an excellent product. Bravo Bungie, you have my cash and a loyal fan right here!

This is just going to leave all the xbox users alone since the PC is a much more common thing people have.
If they are going to have dedicated servers for H2 PC, then they just have it for Halo 2 Live too. Plus the map editor, because that will make a lot of Xbox live users who play Halo leave the first and original and most important Halo 2 world.

Not to mention some new "Halo 2 PC" forums will probably show their ugly faces up and it will be filled with spam of peoples own made maps for download.
This will also leave the Halo 2 forums empty, because again PCs are more common.
On my Special Edition Collectors Halo 2, it states, XBOX ONLY. Wtf is with that? Might as well call yourselves a bunch of liars.
Xbox & Xbox 360 need Halo 2 because it's something special that you can only get if you have a Xbox or 360.
I see your logic as being flawed. What everyone of us is going to up and leave for something we don't have? "On my Special Edition Collectors Halo 2, it states, XBOX ONLY. Wtf is with that? Might as well call yourselves a bunch of liars." Say what? Do you have any idea how much money there is to be made in having a PC version? Bungie / Microsoft would be crazy not to release a PC version, and YOU must BE crazy if you thought they were never going to make a PC port.

Since Halo 2 Vista will have Server Browsers/Public User Hosted Games, hosts will be able to boot the cheaters, unlike in Halo 2 for the Xbox, where cheaters run rampant in Matchmaking.

As for those that are pissed off at Bungie for making a PC game. Grow the -blam!- up, and stop being a bunch of selfish -blam!-es. There's a huge market for Halo 2 on the PC, and any business would be stupid not to do what Bungie is doing (making a PC version). Bungie said a year ago that they were concentrating all (or almost all) of their efforts on their next project (Halo 3) after the 9 new maps were released, and they are, Halo 2 for Windows Vista is mostly being developed by an internal Microsoft Studio other than Bungie (correct me if I'm wrong). Even if Halo 2 PC was never made, I highly doubt that Bungie would continued to release patches/dl content for Halo 2 on the Xbox.

Of course I would like to see the addition of a server browser, a patch, a map editor, and DL content for the Xbox version of Halo 2, but it ain't happening, so you guys might as well grow up and stop -blam!-ing about it.

Halo's a hell of a drug.

Frankie,

Next time ask if there will be campaign mode changes, like maybe more enemies on the screen at once. Thanks baldy.

Like I said, the least they could do is allow the xbox owners to download the new maps. If they have just been sitting there, why not release them?

I understand that there is a huge market in PC but they are "neglecting" their core fans. Why should a PC user...who might have never played the game on Xbox, never lost their rank to cheaters, never paid for new maps, and never been bridged out of a game - get all the goodies? Why? I understand not getting the dedicated servers...and even the map maker...but not the new maps. There is no reason why they cant provide these for xbox owners as well.

For all we know Halo 3 will be release for Vista and 360 at the same time. Will the PC version get a map editor and all sorts of other goodies over the 360 version?

Fine call me a cry baby, but this still is rather lame. Just because I understand the business behind something doesnt mean I have to like it.

Just once, ONCE! I would like to hear Bungie admit that if you go into Team Slayer at any rank above a 32 you will get cheated within the first 3 matches. I guess this is okay, especially when the kids gamertag is "Imodyou23"?

I dont expect Bungie to fix everything and make everything fair, but at least admit that the Xbox players are getting the short end of the stick...and that they have been the best fans the series has ever seen.

Sorry. I rant.

GREAT, so you can afford dedicated servers for PC gamers who don't pay a subscription fee but not for xbox gamers who pay 40 quid a year for the privilege? That's OUTRAGEOUS

You obviously don't know much about PC gaming. Yes, there are dedicated servers provided by Bungie, but not that many. There are around 18 for North America and somewhere around that number for Europe.

Most of the Halo PC dedicated servers are run by clans or other gamers. For example, there is The Maw server run by Igg.

If there is a total of about 35 dedicated servers provided by Bungie for PC gamers(in Halo PC), then do you think that many would be able to work for Halo 2 on XBOX LIVE?

16x35=560 players at one time. That wouldn't even hold a fraction of the Halo 2 players that are on XBOX LIVE at one time.

I'm not going to waste my time pointing out the errors to the other people who don't know about PC gaming.

Put simply: PC gaming is different from XBOX LIVE gaming, and PC gamers expect different things.

Read the H2PC wish list in The Maw to get an idea.

I highly doubt you have the requirements because it will run on windows vista! duh! Vista isn't out and will come out next year, so unless you have gone in the future a got a copy of vista then brought it back to present time, then you dont have the requirements

I'm on vista now, so please dont talk about what you dont know anything about :), you just happened to be the last post, all the other posts saying xbox needs halo 2 exclusivity are also extremely rediculous, but I wont comment on that ;).

Halo 3 is coming out for the xbox only, that is enough, the end!.

i agree its just that if they have the maps available it would be smart on there part to release them on the xbox so that they can make some cash and shut up the fans who won't stop whining

I think Vista Looks stupid. Why work on that when you could be making Halo 3 come out sooner or work on New maps for Halo 2 or make Halo 1 an Xbox arcade game. This just seems like a waste of time
