Halo wars is set in the halo universe but nothing about it feels like maybe cause its whole other genre but to me it still doesnt feel like a halo game not only gameplaywise but the story aswell..it just doesnt feel right

Just because you didn't like it or agree with what it did to Halo canon doesn't really give you a reason not to acknowledge its existence.

You can hate it if you want, but I think it's a little insulting to ignore to a team of developers who worked incredibly hard to make a working console RTS in a Universe we love, and to banish years of good will and man-hours to a place meant for fan-fiction and machinima.

It is called "Halo" Wars...

This sig will Self-Destruct in 3.... 2.... 1.... Thank you for your time. Cookie?

It's a Halo game, but it's also a spin-off.

It's technically part of the Halo franchise, but you don't have to admit it's part of the Halo 'series' if people want to be touchy.

tbh, though, I liked it.

  • 07.25.2012 12:55 PM PDT

It was a Halo game, just not as popular or respected as the others. It's sort of like Halo 3: ODST, not really connected to the story. Halo Wars being less connected than ODST.

Actually it does because it's his opinion

Lol, no. Halo Wars, along with Halo Legends, is canon. You may not like it, you may not accept it, but it is a fact. And when it comes to fact, opinion has very little to do with it.

When did works of fiction become fact?

Halo Wars is a work of fiction but it is a fact that it is canon with the rest of the Halo Universe.

I did not enjoy that game at all.The over the top view and basically a whole different genre of a video game was a surprise that I found out the hard way.(Didn't even complete the first mission)

It's a Halo game and anyone who denies this is only kidding themselves. It's not up to the likes of you to decide what is and isn't canon, both Bungie and 343i recognise it as such - therefore its canon. No idea why you wouldn't call it a Halo game, it has a better story than both Halo 3 and Reach.

To be honest when Halo Wars came out I didn't think much of it. I liked the gameplay but wasn't fond of the characters or cutscenes. However once Legends came out I realised that Halo Wars was very good and that I had disliked it because it wasn't quite up to the excellent standard of Bungie's Halo.

But yeah Legends....... so bad that it shook me out of my funk.

Halo wars is one of the best halo games, it had the best gameplay for RTS game and a good story, it showed the concept of shield world(onyx told us about it, not showed), from it we saw that covenant were in doubts about defeating humanity and that forerunner ''shields'' were not so indestructable.

Overall i think it is as much canon as any other halo game till halo 3:ODST.

  • 07.26.2012 2:53 AM PDT

Well since its Halo Wars I consider it Halo. Doesn't mean its cannon though

We the animals take control

The only thing that makes it a halo game is it begins with Halo.....simularities stop there...

What?

Explain.

I hope it isn't about installation 04 is the first contact between humans and Flood because that is not true.

Sigh...

You are aware that the Flood is over 110,000 years old, yes? That they fought the Forerunners which generated the need for the Halos and Shield Worlds? You have been paying attention to the story for the past 11 years, yes?

Mendicant Bias betrayed the location of many of the Shield Worlds to the Flood, when humanity arrive 100,000 years later how are they supposed to know it's an intergalactic parasite that wiped out galactic civilisation? It appears as nothing more than a primitive native species that has never been seen before on any world - they don't know the true threat it poses at the time.

Also, the Spirit of Fire never makes it back to UNSC-controlled space, and even if they did humanity would either already know about the Flood after the events of Halo CE or it just wouldn't be thought much of if it was reported. It's not on any other human colony world, it's a threat that was only on one world which was DESTROYED. They'd be more interested in the Shield World itself.

Thus, it makes perfect canonical sense. You just have to pay attention...

You're making some kind of joke here, correct?

Similarities? Same weapons, check. Same vehicles, check. Same general plot as Halo CE, 2 and 3, check. Arbiter, check. Prophet of Regret, check. Concepts derived from games and books (glassing, Shield Worlds etc), check.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and just assume you were joking because to say that Halo Wars has nothing in common with the rest of the series is just plain stupid.

I'm sorry, but it actually is a Halo game. Just because someone else made it doesn't mean it's not part of the franchise.

Opinion: Halo Wars was a great game.

Declarative: It is considered a Halo game, it followed previous Halo lore and the Halo Bible.

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not.

Seeing as the forerunners created Shield worlds and Halos i don't see what you are trying to get at if you mean "if there isn't a halo it isn't a halo game". by that logic (if you meant that) ODST isn't a halo game.

By that logic neither is Reach.

You never actually play on a Halo ring.

Why not? Does it conflict with the existing canon?

Not at all. People seem to have put themselves under the delusion that because the Spartans have shields in gameplay the whole thing is non-canonical when we've known for years that gameplay is not representative of canon.

  • 07.27.2012 12:17 PM PDT

Halo wars is a part of the franchise but it is not a part of Bungies Halo hence why it is not on the website. Any Halo game that is not made by Bungie and possibly 343 I do not regard as the Halo I grew up playing.
