I was just thinking about the yet to be revealed ancient threat or enemy for the reclaimer trilogy. It got me wondering if the new evil is as powerful and threatening as some of the ideas i have seen regarding them are, ie precursors, unknown race, ancient humanity.
Would that mean chief might perform a mutation to try and get strong enough to defeat this enemy? It might seem farfetched but i thought that if the forerunners do ally with you against this threat then surely you would do a mutation in order to try and get stronger.

Do brevet mutations work that way or would chief be unable to perform one at all?
I think it may happen neaer the end of the new trilogy.

That would actually be pretty cool, except I can't see any of the Prometheans taking time out from trying to kill him to volunteer =)

I love you [b]

An upgrade of nano-tech tritainium "Sword" nanites is standerd to each SPARTAN equivalent.

Chief and cortana find it in level 3

Your "doubt" has alrready been defined as b-net failure.

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

Why would he need to? And the only person I could see giving him one would be the Librarian.

Thanks, also why might it not happen? They said Halo 5 would be darker.

It entirely depends who this Ancient Enemy is, if it is the pre-cursors like people have speculated then i'd imagine that they would need chief to mutate in order to have a chance at winning. What about Bornstellar giving him a mutation? If that's possible anyway.

Yeah, kinda impossible for him to go through a physical change the forerunners go though... as he's a human, not a forerunner.

Forerunners were/are humans though, right? What proof shows otherwise?

Cryptum.

They evolved on different planets, but were created by the same Precursors. We look very similar, but I doubt of the Chief would be applicable.

Anything's possible though. If he has the Librarian's genetic touch, it might work.

Both novels heavily imply that both races think and even acknowledge they were one race originally. for instance

Forerunner and human alike became frozen in place.

And what it now impressed upon me, even now, was the most
frightening thing of all

Superior, intensely pure curiosityfar colder and more precise
and disciplined than anything I had ever known. These entities were
expressing an almost cruelly isolated and lofty interest in the stages
of an[u] ongoing experiment
.

Was there some sense of satisfaction at this melding of so many
Forerunners and humans? Some triumphal revisiting of an ancient
plan, long ago frustrated, then abandoned, but now possible once
more?

Could Forerunners and humans be recombined and reverse their
shivering asunder so many millions of years before
. . . when the
Primordial and the last of its kind decided on a larger, wider
strategy, a greater plan that would no doubt bring about immense
pain, but also a greater unity of all things. . . .
Through the Flood, the Shaping Sickness.

that was pretty much direct confirmation as this was thought of when chakas and the infected forerunner fused together combining all of their knowledge. It seems that the flood might have created due to the separate races at the same time it seems the races were created after the flood.

If this is the case and Forerunners and Humans started out as the same race you'd think the Forerunners would have shown a little bit more mercy towards Humanity after defeating them. It struck me as odd in Cryptum that Born and Didact almost shrug off both races obvious physical and genetic similarities as merely an afterthought. You'd think if two species met in space appearing to be almost identical in their basic forms they'd at least try to gain some insight into why, even with the threat of the Flood and battling one another. I never understood why ancient Humanity never asked for help from the Forerunners while fighting the Flood. Instead Humanity stupidly invaded their worlds to gain temporary footing against the Precursors supposed test.

  • 07.26.2012 8:36 PM PDT

I'm still curious to find out if the Precursors really created both races or merely experimented on their ancestors to produce their current forms.

Humans don't work like that.

We share at least very similar genetic structure to the Forerunners. If a human can be made into a monitor or be imprinted, I'm sure one can undergo a brevet mutation too. It'd just be different.

I reckon the Chief's already carrying the latent imprint of the Didact just as Cortana is probably carrying the Librarian's imprint (well, a copy of Halsey's.) So to go one step further isn't so impossible.

Sad part is the Internet probably already has this covered.

If he does it would contradict what Bungie originally had planned for the Halo series. Halo was never supposed to be a story about a character who grows stronger and stronger to defeat a more powerful foe, like almost every other video game out there, but it was supposed to be a story about a civilization that literally has its back against the wall, as quoted by Joseph Staten on an interview with him about Halo 2.

It wouldn't so much be about getting stronger but a case of being the civilizations last hope. If both races were cornered and only the combination of the best could achieve success.
It could also be done so that the combination could rapidly advance the aging process or drastically damage his body due to how he uses the new power. In other words using the mutation to defeat the ultimate enemy would kill him, i think that'd be a fitting ending.

Indeed it would I suppose.
