There are groups out there mass pming members of the Halo 3 Forum telling them to join there group to get your ideas put into Halo 3. I'm not saying fan-ideas in the game would be a bad thing--for the most part. But due to legal reasons bungie does not accept direct fan-ideas UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. I know alot of the new members of bungie do not understand this and have been tricked into joining these groups. So after received a bunch of these advertisements myself I would like to clarify for everyone that this is the case. Also here is a forum post by the moderator GameJunkieJim to back up what I have said:

He may be a little off handed, but he's correct.

You do not own this specific forum space, and cannot take ownership of anyones ideas because they post here. It's illegal, and your terms of use are pretty much worthless. First off, it's not an internationally binding contract.

Secondly, under US copyright law, an item is considered protected under copyright from the moment it's fixed into a medium. If they post their idea here afterwards especially, it requires explicit written permission for anyone to obtain those rights.

Third, you cannot claim for plagiarism. The object, even if it originates on this forum, does not belong to you for the reasons stated above, if it were to work like that, even then you would not be privy to any rights, because the site is hosted on a Bungie Server. Your document implies legal action, and in that case, the name Popular Fusion and all related items belong to Bungie Studios. In other words, the document is worth nothing.

The group has a lot of members, you shouldn't mislead them into thinking you're doing anything official here. Everyone, your ideas are your own. [name removed] cannot take them. But you don't have much to worry about. Bungie does not accept direct ideas from fans. Again, it's a legal issue.

[name removed], I think you should go about taking down that phony 'contract' soon, it's not something I think Bungie Brass would like to see on their group.
Specific names and groups have been removed for privacy.

Direct fan ideas is suppose to be a bunch of people in a bungie.net group getting together to compiling a list of ideas and sending them to bungie. This is what I'm talking about for thoughs of you that are confused.

I'm saying that group your in is lying to all its members. They are promising by that they can get your ideas into Halo 3 or even to be heard by bungie when in fact they have no connect to bungie and bungie does not accept ideas from fans due to copyright reasons and other legal reasons.

They...just...keep....coming...

*Nervous breakdown due to group invites saying that they can get my ideas put into halo 3*

They don't accept ideas from fans for a few reasons.

1. Most ideas suck.
2. It could cause legal problems.
3. Microsoft could lose those legal problems.

How is it possible that bungie can not accept different ideas from it's fans?

I don't know all the legal reasons why it cannot but I do know it has something to do with copyrights. I believe also it has to do with intellectaul property and getting sued. The exact legal reasons I would have to look up though. I am not versed very well in internet law.

Legal problems could include.

1. Plagerism. Taking anothers ideas and passing them off as your own.

Just put them on your ignore list.

But before you do that, PM back and say, "Type me 300 words on why I should join your group. Then I'll join."

Then block them.

Or make fun of them for doing so and then not join and block them.

Bungie can accept different ideas though. Lets not forget that this is us, the customer, that they're listening to. Why else would they try and fix modding? Because we wanted it, and cheating all togethor. Why else would they release those updates? We wanted it to happen, we told them our 'ideas' to make the game better, they listened, and accepted them. MLG anyone? Now, if everyone of their fans (us) hated say, headlong, it'd probably be tooken out of matchmaking. So again i don't see how they can't accept our ideas.

When he says bungie won't accept your Ideas he means for brand new games. After that they'll take it. zbut say you want something in Campaign, or a weapon in the game. They won't take it.

Bungie does NOT accept ideas for the new game they are working on.

This is bungie. They kept the secret of halo 3 forever.

Do you think they would leak something?

They won't accept ideas for a new game? Such as.. halo 3? Wrong, to blow that out of the water i'll give you one example, the AR (assault rifle). We wanted it. We got it.

and to blow you out of the water.

That wasn't an idea. Bungie made it they can take it.

and it's not the same Assault rifle as in Halo 1, which is what people wanted.

I understand what your saying but there is a clear line between playlist updates and including a new weapon in the game that a fan made. All the things you listed were indeed fan-suggested--except stopping modding..thats kinda obvious. But playlist updates and changing maps on xbox live is not the same as releasing a product with fan-ideas in it. Playlist updates are all done through bungie on there computers are the actaul thing is filtered down to everyone via xbox live which is a medium. The actaul idea never leaves bungie you just received it through xbox live. Its kind of a hard concept and I don't think I illustrated it well but that is the idea.

Right--they fix modding and all because we wanted it, but also because it wasn't the single idea of one person. It was a community idea. If every single person in this site said "give us a jetpack," I imagine Bungie would put a jetpack in halo 3.

Not to mention, modding is a serious problem. Even without the community asking, Bungie would have gotten rid of modders.

Ok to make it more clear.

bungie does NOT accept new ideas for In development games. They make it there own, and then change it if they want to.

Althoguh the Campaign will nenver change. It will only be multiplayer.

So Story line ideas are cut 100%

These are new ideas that are actually being implemented into a new game. Yes Bungie does keep imporoving Halo 2 based on what the fans think, because they want the game the best that they can make it. If Halo 2 was just a bunch of fan submissions, it would suck. Yes they take bits and pieces of things they see around and on other games, but mostly it's their own ideas.

I figured there was something fishy going on here.
