I can attest to that. I tried a routine like that starting out back in '09/'10. Ended up getting a hernia because I didn't work up to that kind of difficulty and weight properly and my form was pretty bad on squats and dead lifts. Having a portion of your guts protruding through your abdominal wall isn't really fun.Sorry to hear about that, but that was entirely your own fault. If you'd actually followed the program correctly you wouldn't have blown your guts outYes, it was entirely my fault. That's not a "beginner" program, especially starting out right at heavy weights. Any program I've gotten on since then, I've always started out lifting just the 45-lbs. bar with no weights on it first to make sure I have the proper form down. What program was it? Because every beginner strength program I've ever seen reccomends starting off light until you understand the exercise.Someone just told me almost exactly this:

This is stupid.
This is all you need to know:
Lift weights 3 times per week with a 5x5 method, revolving around the deadlift, squat, bench press and pullups.
Eat more.
Done.If you're a beginner, there's way more you need to know than just that, and since the OP was directing this thread at beginners, I understand his argument that "Sending a beginner to do 5x5 heavy sets is a one way ticket to spine-snap city." There's a lot more that a beginner needs to know than just that.
