Guys, guys, guys.....wanna know why HALO PC sucks and blows?

Terrible initial job by Gearbox Software, and a brilliant tactic by Microsoft. Think about it.

First off, HALO PC was about 6 months premature when it launched in Fall 2003. Gearbox Software did a hash job, but could only blow to Microsoft's demands for a release in time for Holidays 2003. Wanna know why Microsoft screwed Gearbox over?

Simple! If HALO PC sucks, then people will yearn for the ULTIMATE HALO experience, and choke up cash for a goddamn XBOX! And guess what, unimpressed with HALO PC I bought an HALO limited edition XBOX.

Money talks people. Although I think Microsoft should stay away from Gearbox Software next time they want a good PC port.

Well Microsoft wanted the game out before Half Life 2. And in doing so, rushed the game in whatever condition it was in and this is what we get. A directx 8 game extracted from the Xbox and converted to Directx 9 that barely works on the PC. Anyways, this is the last Microsoft game I'll buy unless they decided to put Halo 2 on PC.

Heyyo,

Yeah, look at HaloCE, Gearbox's special version of HaloPC. THAT actually turned out pretty good. Netcode was better, and even thought it could still use some optimization n' changes but at least I could turn on specular lighting n' shadows n' not have to wanna break my comp from bad frames/second.

I know, a lot of m$ games suck soo bad. Midtown Madness? #1 was the best, the rest are crap. Plus the driving physics suck hard. And don't tell me the age of the game as an excuse, I think Driver1 is older than MM2, and it had incredible driving physics soo springy n' full of realisim. :)

Mechwarrior? ok, maybe the only game made by m$ that turned out ok.

The only way M$ gets good games is buy them out. And yeah, M$ should stick with what they're good at, M$ office and Windows, leave games to the pros.

Yeah, for Halo2 if they make it for PC, they better do a waaay better job porting it than they did with Halo1 or else I'll probably not buy it n' just use that HaloCE - Halo2 mod.

Strykur, a lot of people don't have any problem with Halo PC.

For the 'ultimate Halo experience' as you said, then the PC version has more potential considering it's an expanded version of Halo Xbox. In fact many people refer to it as Halo 1.5, although I think that's a bit beside the point.

You're right in saying that perhaps they did a rush job on the PC port of Halo 1, and I agree with the other guy who said if there was a PC version of Halo2 tht they should take their time and do it right. However like I said at the beginning I've never had any problems with it what so ever...

And, just because you bought an xbox for Halo 2, doesn't mean other people will. I personally think that's a bit lame to spend all that money for one thing. I spend money on my computer because I play more than 1 excellent game, at the moment it's CS: Source and it'll soon be Half Life 2.

Anyway back to the point, don't be so harsh on Gearbox. If it works fine on some PC's then well done to them. Unless you think you could do a better job, Stryker, then don't insult Gearbox.

And yeah money does talk, like the money M$ would lose by halving their Halo2 market by not making a PC version. On the upside though I doubt it'd cost as much on PC coz it'll be an old game by then. Lol.

Thats your preferences. I actually like sitting on a chair and playing the game that way instead of the TV.

Talking online sucks. Its all about gaming. If you want to talk, talk on the phone. If you want to game, the play the game.

While as i dont have internet gaming (i have a 56k modem on my pc and that means everybody hates you for being jerky etc and you get booted, and its not that fun any way with such a slow connection), I frequently play halo on x box and i have to say i reagrd it more as a social occasion when my friend come rround and we play 7 player halo. You can chat, laugh, swear and have a great deal of fun. You can see the great/stupid things other people doing in the game and it is great fun. I think there is a different attitude to multiplayer between x box players and pc players ( i have a pc, enjoy pc games but i cant really play decent multi on it). As you can see each other on x box playing multi, it may be seen as a more of a laugh, and a social occasion, while as on a pc your playing online the funs more tightly linked to the game. So i disagree that its allabout the gaming, nut then that is probably down to my experience of the game. (oh and the controls seem more natural on the xbox i have played pc halo, and not on my -blam!- pc but on quite good ones)

Heyyo,

Dude, like I said on the other thread, get Teamspeak, and any mic. PC gaming is MUCH more fun with your buds. Me n' me buds always lip eachother off n' run around in teams n' beat the living crap outta anything we see. We tend to be groups of 5-8... and aww... you need a few xbox's to play together, just like PC's, so you don't really gain points if your buds come over to play together cause most people only buy 2 xbox controllers anyways. LAN party's also -blam!- kick ass on PC, no screenlooking (unless the PC's are too close together) which happens all the time on xbox's. If people say they don't screenlook, that's BS, it takes no effort at all to look 1/2 a screen down or up to see your opponent's view. Me buds say he doesn't screenlook cause he's too skilled to do that, but I watched his eyes, and surely enough, every 40 seconds or so, his eyes would move down a little. Points down for xbox.

I'm probably gonna get Battlefield Vietnam which supports up to like, 32 players I believe. Can xbox's be hooked up to 8 at one time? nope, it's a max of 4 I believe.

look I think that if your going to play halo pc than you should at least know your computers limits. If you dont have the right stuff its going to suck! xbox dosent lag... PC does (depending on the "parts")'

I know for a fact (i have done it) that setting up lan pc games take an age (moving pcs wiring them up etc) and that kinda relies on someone owning more than one decent pc. As for screen looking, im about the worst perpatraitor of that in my playing group, and no one cares that much. Yeah you need more than one x box, we use two, my friend's one and mine and we have seven controllers between the two of us. It takes a little while to set it up, but no where near as long as messing around with pc does. I dont have any really good pc multi games as i only have the one -blam!- pc and a 56k modem. I do like pc games, and battlefield vietnam is one example of a great one (me and my pals also play that). Im not saying pc games are -blam!-, just that i think halo is better on the xbox and that consoles are generally more conveniant. For many things pc is better. Strategy, rpg, and some shooters are infinately better on a pc, but as i have already said, that as long as you have a -blam!- pc you can only play old games (god do i know it, never had an up to date pc).

Heyyo,

Yeah, Console gaming is easier to setup than bringing a PC due to wires, but 1-3 mins of extra setup ain't gonna kill ya. Me n' me buds used to always play sports games on N64 years past, and we never really bothered with anyother games. I'm sure Halo would be fun, but still, I'm all about racing n' sport games on consoles.

One nice thing I like aboot console gaming is no need to worry aboot spilling pop or beer, or whatever you're drinking on it too much, cause I think the xbox controllers are somewhat waterproof.. at least it diddn't short-circuit when I spilt my drink onnit. On my PC? I fried my keyboard before... but that's ok, it was a crappy one anyways. Some old one I had from my stupid old Compaq computer. =D

In PC since Doom 1, we never needed wireless garbage at all. Its frag or be frag, I don't know how the Xbox people like talking instead of playing the game. Kinda negates the whole purposes of the Xbox live itself there. And if this is what we get for 50 bucks for Xbox live, probably best to go to PC and play the game and if you want to talk to your friends, talk to them on MSN or the phone. Its cheap anyway. But as far as I know in the Halo PC multiplayer, I have talked to them on MSN and none of them ever use the chat function in the game. Its the game, not the friends. If its lan party with your friends, then yeah thats where the phone comes in handy, but when you against thousands of people around the world, you either kill them, or be killed.

I love consoles, but I grew up playing doom on my old 586 so I’ve always preferred the customization of a key board. My girl friend has an x-box and I’ve played it for many days but it just wasn’t right, a key board just feels more natural for a first person shooter. You can also download levels and make levels. The only way that someone could not like halo pc is if they hadn’t played it more than 5 minutes. it's not that I don’t like consoles, heck I’ve got a bunch myself but I just prefer the features and feel of a computer. Of curse I’d never play a platformer or adventure game on a computer because then it becomes ocuard feeling. Imagine playing the legend of Zelda or star fox on a computer. Any ways, what I’m trying to say is some games are best for one and some are for the other and I just feel halo was meant for pc.

Heyyo,

yo pollo, for games like starfox, they're good on pc. You can only play the unreleased Starfox 2 for SNES on the PC. YES, it DOES exist, and it's considered freeware since the game never officially released. Just get a good joystick. and if you want force feedback? get Immersion's Touchsense gaming software. Works pretty good. ;)

Well, for snes games I don't imagine the feel being too different. A D-Pad is aboot the same as our arrow keys, but yes the button layout would be more different.

For HaloPC, it's not a very good game to compare graphics to the xbox game cause the porting wasn't perfect. Deus EX: Invisible war is a perfect comparison since it runs great onna decent PC like mine at full detail settings with the latest patches on. On xbox, I bet they cranked down the details a bit to get it going smoothly. (One thing I miss aboot Deus Ex is it's cool multiplayer mode.. don't see that in DX: Invis War....)

Far Cry will also be another great comparison. On xbox they'll definately have to sacrifice high rez textures and draw distance to get a steady framerate.

So I say try a multitude of games before comparing graphics between xbox and pc... eventually you'll realise the gap caused by older technology (xbox's Geforce3 which only hardware supports DirectX 8.. so I bet for Halo2 DirectX 9 graphics are software emulated..)

What I don't get is that we are fighting amungst ourselves about something we both like. Halo is the best game ever no matter what system you are running on. I had the PC version first and it was cool, granted I had a crappy PC. Then I got an xbox to get ready for Halo 2. I still play both even though the xbox is more convienient.

Overall the PC and xbox should both be hailed for this game. at least PS2 isn't getting this game. I hate PS2. I bet some of you don't agree with me, but I dont care.

I hate PS2 as well! Nice 1! My brother also hates it coz it sucks arse!

You have to install it ONCE. That's like saying you have to take the CD out the box every time. It's one of those things you have to learn to accept. It doesn't take a whole lotta space either, 1.2GB isn't much these days, some games use more like 3. Unless you have a 10GB hard drive from 6 years ago that shouldn't be an issue for you. And what else would you be doing with that space anyway? Nobody needs That much pr0n. And umm Excuse Me but who said anything about downloading Halo? That's illegal, bluetard. How would the game take longer to play? I've no idea what you're on about there. Halo takes up a -blam!-load of space on your xbox's hard drive aswell you know. You're evidently ignorant to the extreme if your reason for not liking Halo PC is the space it requires on your hard drive. Most people ike Halo PC because of the better graphics, more maps weapons and vehicles etc. I've no idea what the last word in your post was meant to say. Maybe it's 'Sensitivity'? The point made is that you can only move the stick on a control pad so far, whereas a mouse has much greater freedom.
