Subject: Bungie officials/Moderators, I need your help

Founder and leader of the Halo group "Experimental Singularity" JOIN TODAY!

So long story short I post on the classifieds advertiseing my clan, I use the collection of letters and symbols F#@k to represent the F-bomb.

I recieved a warning from a moderator(whos name shall remain a secret)stating I broke the bungie.net terms of use policy. Here's the message, Except for part listing the moderator's name.

A Bungie.net Forum Moderator has warned you for violating the code of conduct and/or rules of the forum in the thread below. Further violations will likely result in a ban.

Do not bypass the profanity filter

I origanally posted in the flood about this and some helpful people pointed me this way saying it would be better to post here.
I'm not mad just confused because I didn't think it was a problem. I would appreciate your advice on how to handle the situation.

Do not bypass the profanity filter.

Is that hard to comprehend or something?

You made a word that you intended to be interpreted as a blammed word. Therefore, you bypassed the filter.

  • 07.16.2012 11:35 PM PDT

If you look at the rules, under "Play Nice, Don't Be a Jerk", it states "Do not bypass the profanity filter".

In the future, just PM the mod that gave you the warning. No need to make it a public deal.

Don't bypass the filter, under any circumstances.

You used special charterers to avoid the profanity filter from filtering your work. When you do this it is like you just wrote the word itself.

That is against the rules.

Does anyone even read these?

That is pretty ridiculous. Who issued the ban?

OP - You're a dumbass with the reading comprehension skills of a second grader.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with these two, this made me LOL hard.

Don't try to censor out words. It'll censor itself out already.

Thanks for the advice, I would send the moderator a message but the message itself was sent by the automated response sytem, moderators don't apparently send you the message themselves just give you a warning then the sytsem handles the rest.

And I'm not trying to make this a public thread.
I was just looking for advice which I'm thankful that many of you guys could provide. I recently read the rules and only after I got the message and examined the locked thread did I realize what they meant by bypass.

I had assumed bungie had meant hacking your way past it.

Oh sorry, I mean warning.

It's such a little issue I don't see why you would be given a warning for it anyway. Are people really going to be offended by someone posting the f-word. Saying the f-word is simply as bad as saying f@*k due to it both representing the same word.

Why would you willingly bypass the filter after knowing the OP got a warning for it, and several people explained the rule violation within the thread?

Thank you bobcast, I do understand the rules(now) and was looking for advice on how to handle it not what I did wrong. No offense but you should take after your own words and also read the thread.

A helpful tip would have been as follows;
-Let the filter just censor the whole word
-Avoid any attempt to use profanity in future threads
-Accept the warning and just don't do it again.
-Attempt to level with the moderator via pm
-Do nothing

The above would all be appropriate responses which I have recieved. Telling me the rules and explaining what I did wrong is not what I'm looking for with the thread. If I wanted to read the rules(again)I would be doing so instead of posting threads.

I appreciate your input but please only post responses answering the question I asked.

Don't trust what stupid people say (stupid people being people... human beings), and always read or re-read the official rules.

I recieved another message from A different moderator with the message as follows;

A Bungie.net Forum Moderator has warned you for violating the code of conduct and/or rules of the forum in the thread below. Further violations will likely result in a ban.

http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=73552488&v iewreplies=true

Strike two, do not bypass the profanity filter.

This warning I do have a problem with because I had used the word as an example in the op so the readers/posters would know what I'm talking about and what I actually posted that got me the warning.

So I must also censor what phrase I wanted to talk about in the thread explaining the reason why I reseived a warning, just so I don't recieve another warning.

I won't post the phrase again and if recieve another warning which I assume means I'll be banned than It's all on bungie's lack to moderate their moderators.

Next time I recommend PMing a forum mod, if you are truly having a hard time I'm sure any member whose been here for over 2 years can give all the advice you need (take that with a grain of salt though)

As worthless as this warning really is, I do respect the fact that some mods keep to their job. Good work, son.

Are you kidding me? Are you really this dense?

What you just did was akin to driving through a town going 60 in a 45. You got pulled over. You tell the cop you must have missed the speed limit sign and the cop lets you off with a warning.

Instead of just going on your way at 45, you decided to whip your car around and take off at 60 to look for that sign.

Why are you surprised you got warned again?

  • 07.17.2012 12:21 AM PDT

cars, girls & cake all day everyday

Are you really this dense for not locking the thread already?

Nah, leave it open...tis the consequences of being stupid.

So I'm supposed to have people sit there guessing what it was I typed?

People will always assume the worst if the truth isn't clarified for them. It's human nature. And while I can can agree with your metaphor of me recieving a warning than doing it again I would like to point out a flaw with this method.

The speed limit comparison isn't relevant because there's a problem, I did it again in a descriptive manor to express to the public what exactly it is I did wrong and how I should handle it. What I didn't do was do it again for the purpose of self examining my problem which I previously stated I had already done.

A much better comparison would have been for a man in court accused of stealing a wallet to steal a person's wallet that is present in the court room for the perpose of demonstrating the act to the jury and judge.

Again I'd aprecciate advice on what to do and would prefer not to be in an arguement with anyone on bungie.net.

I hope you can accept this and if you have nothing relevant to what I'm requesting than you should just leave the thread alone and cease posting to it.

-Thank you

why lock a thread that is present for the purpose of getting help on how to handle the situation.

That course of action is what truely seems dense.
