...the posting for a job available for an economy designer doesn't necessarily allude to or lead to any sort of in-game marketplace.
True. But ""You'll design the systems and mechanics which drive in-game trade" does imply that there will be in-game trade.

Ahhh, I see. Well, now that makes it a more likely conclusion to come to.

Even still, I don't know if a forum is the right way to go with this idea. I think a site based marketplace (which works in tandem with the in-game one) would be a much better and cooler idea. That's just me.

A forum could work if there was an ability to choose specific filters;

Quests (New/old)(Price high/low)

A forum could work if there was an ability to choose specific filters;

Quests (New/old)(Price high/low)
Items (New/old)(Price high/low)
But a forum is meant for discussion.

Just take, for example, the auction house in World of Warcraft. If you're not familiar with it, it does, like you said, have several different filters on it. So you could set them to something like:

Weapons > Two-Handed Swords > "Sort by Price" > "Search: 'of the Monkey'" Or something to that effect. Then, when you hover over any given item in the auction house, it gives you all of that items specs. So, as this is not real world trading and there is no need to inquire about the condition of the item, the only thing you would need to do is either bid for or buyout the item.

Any discussion of the quality of any given item would surely take place in the general forums where anyone could tell you about how good any given item is compared to others, and this discussion wouldn't be one you would want to have with the seller as they would most likely try to make any given item sound better than it is so that you will give them all your Bungie Bucks (things like "I saw this sell for half that earlier today, this is a bargain").

So I don't think a forum-based on-site market would work. An interactive (flash-based? java-based? Maybe text based, but I'm not sure how?) market on BNet would be awesome. That could also evolve (later) into a mobile app for the market and game in general; which would be super cool.

Yep. I think a new forum is not what,it will be but I just call most pages users post on as forums. So I thought it may be a forum, but it will likely be like the wow thing you mentioned, though a page dedicated to it.

I think mainly most are not looking at forum with the same definition.

That doesn't necessarily mean that discussion will take place there. Case in point; The Classifieds. *You could argue over whether it was designed to harbor conversation or not but the fact remains that it is still a forum despite not promoting conversation*

The Classifieds fail as a forum, in almost every respect. Comparing a regular forum to the Classifieds is the quintessential "Apples to Oranges" debate.

The market should be like Ebay. Auctions and the like with its own application on smartphones. So everyone is constantly checking it. Also, it should have its own stock market and economic analysis systems inbuilt so that stock brokers and the like can be constantly scheming...

“Oh, it’s a little bit of everything, it’s the mountains, it’s the fog, it’s the news at six o’clock, it’s the death of my first dog, it’s the angels up above me, it’s the song that they don’t sing, It’s a little bit of everything.”
- Dawes, A little bit of everything

Halo brought us the File Share system and for a while the forums where such files could be advertised. I imagine a game with a market feature would work similarly (mechanism in-game, with helping mechanisms/forums outside).

It would be interesting. Though wonder who will police the companies. Also would bring another unique way and approach to the game. Though it should not intefere those who are casual players.

Anyway what are you thinking will be added withthe new updates. What new ideas will be added to connect to the game. Like a map and data on the battle, or conflict. Maybe a new page for each player for new missions, etc, for their team.

Also I was wondering if I could change the topic because the discussion is changing.

Of course you can. The only time I've seen a community be pissed at an OP for changing the topic is if the original thread was of the Shock variety or if it's deleting the whole thing because they're pissed people don't agree with them.

But as for this:hat are you thinking will be added withthe new updates. What new ideas will be added to connect to the game.

That's a very interesting question. Because Bungie has an opportunity to make Bungie.net a very integral part of Destiny apart from simply using it as a site upon which to host forums and stats. It can be a tool rather than an accessory. A feature rather than an afterthought. An innovation rather than a run of the mill developers' forum.

Like I've mentioned before, utilizing it as a place to conduct trade (like an in-site WoW Auction House) would be amazing. Using a system like that (searching for items, setting filters, etc.) would be annoying to do in-game, on a console (using joysticks and the A button); it'd be almost as annoying as sending long messages on the Xbox (and I can't imagine its Sony counterpart makes things a whole helluva lot easier in that department).

Any other sort of character management, game-related and -applicable and -important group (faction) discussions in specific group (faction) forums. All these kinds of things can have Destiny do to MMOs what Halo did to the FPS.

The potential to do something absolutely amazing with this blank slate they've set in front of themselves is inconceivable, so I just hope they've got lots of chalk.

edit: While re-reading my post, specifically the part about group (faction) forums, I had an idea and I want to write it down before I forget it.

When you make the game, after some sort of tutorial level area thing, you pick a faction. Then, if you link your account to Bungie.net, Bungie can go in and read which faction you picked. This grants you access to the forums for that specific faction, sort of like a very inclusive private group forum where you can choose to talk about the game in general, or faction specific stuff.

But! the real idea was this: If there's some sort of espionage that can occur between groups (yes... I'm going there), then people who are really good at it or do a special thingy somewhere (obviously not everyone could do it), you could gain access (maybe for a day, two days, whatever) to another factions forum. Posting in there would alert them to you being there and they could kick you out but you could... yknow... lurk and find stuff out about them or whatever.

...

Okay, so it wasn't terribly fleshed out. I'm just putting pen to paper (in a virtual manner) so I don't forget the idea. *thread saved*

Like your idea, though wonder whether there should be different levels for different security access. Better you are the further you can enter. Though I wonder what access is available. Maybe first is forums. Then it is data of weapoms. Then mobement of troops. Then target locations. Also if certain resources are few like tanks have to be spread, then maybe some could watch how many tanks are moving. Or maybe if there is a trading system with companies and a stock exchange, yoi could damage certain economies, and leave them in ruins. This could affect other players who may notice some of their credit drop.

I was actually going to go into something like that but then I remembered that it's an MMOS, not an MMORPG. Things like thievery, espionage, espionage skills, skills in general, stats of that nature usually come with Role Playing Games. But, maybe the category of MMOS just means an MMORPG or something with MMORPG elements based around guns.

I do not believe in stats that can be levelled up. For me it would be more like you are just a normal spy, you could get lucky, or if you work well enough and gain more trust and higher ups promote you. You get more access. Also I wish that the.main commanding.teams are the bungie employees, who make the final say. What to be done and where. They create missions, giving objecrives. Directing different squads.

Subject: The Market (New Forum)+ New role of the site.

yas334229812

For me though i believe that this site will need a messaging system, that connects to the game. To send messages to other players to play on different missions where necessary.

Also i wonder if there will be a page for your platoon, or the squad you usually like to play with.

Site will also end up having high integration with apps, wonder how that will work.
