Poll: Is it the right time to end Halo? [closed]
Total Votes: 22
We can all be reasonably sure of two things in Halo 3; One, you'll play as the Chief. Two; The world is about to end. If you think about things logically, the chances of mankind surviving it's final battle are somewhere between zero and six trillion to one. Why?
The Covenant
Earth was rendered all but defenceless by the Covenant in Halo 2, and we're yet to see the devastating consequences Regrets ship's jump into Slip space had, considoring the vast majority of the millitary were there fighting for the city. The Covenant have proved time and time again they can crush us with little or no effort, and now they've proved it on our very own homeworld. We are indeed looking at a devastated Covenant controlled world; Earth has fallen.
With Earth on the brink of destruction, we can only assume the bulk of mankinds surviving assets will follow, such as Sigma Octanus 4. Having succsessfully taken our most protected asset, the mother of our empire, the Covenant surely have located any until now hidden treasures. The war on Earth is already over, and we have lost.
The Flood
The Flood are an unstoppable force who, with time, will overwhelm even the strongest team. I'm sure we all enjoyed the drama of Halo:CE not by jumping into the fray on its final levels, but by enjoying the battles between The Covenant and the Flood. The Covenant always had the best protected strongholds and held their own in battle, but eventually they were overwhelmed. Whilst they tired and weakened, the flood fought on, immune to pain and torment, slowly but surely engulfing their foes.
Think of these battles but on a much larger scale; A galatic scale. Now the flood have access to ships - and, as we are where aware, the abilaty to fly them - they will very quickly spread in all directions, fueled by their eternal hunger. With accsess to all of High Charitys knowledge - and, even worse, Cortanas, they will surely find our homeworld. The only sure way to defeat them is suicide, and - with the battle already lost and mankind already beaten, it is only natrual that the end the war in the most fitting way; Defeat of both of their enemeys, the unstoppable Flood and the Mighty Covenant.
Apocalypse
So, will the Master Chief save the world? I highly doubt it. Story has always been one of bungies most prized assets, and allowing mankind to pull a miracle recoverey and defeat both of it's mighty foes would be an incredibly lacking plot line. I assure you, it is the end of the world as we know it...
...and I feel fine.
Does this sadden me? Yes, in the same way I am saddened when Borimer dies in Lord of the rings, or Anikan dies in Star Wars. But am I glad it happened? Of course. It was meant to happen.
Halo 3 marks the end of the Halo trilogy. It is only fitting that the series ends, not with a whimper, but with a collossal bang, one that we'll remember. One that will stay with us regardless of what happens next. Bungie could launch award winning sims and RTSs by the truck-load after Halo 3, but its what they'll always be remembered for. Their very own epic.
The $64,000,000 question
The real question is, is now the right time for the Halo franchise to end? Any Halo fan-boy knows that the universe contains a wealth of action and adventure; Is it right that bungie finish things now? Don't you want to play through the awesome battles that we've never even touched in the games, like the battle for Sigma Octanus 4? The close combat boarding action of First Strike, or the epic and legendery fall of reach? Isn't there so much more that could be told, and should Bungie take time to craft games and tell it?
Is now the right time to end the Halo universe?
