When I first joined this website in February 2008 I was 13. My parents had just got divorced and I was having a real -blam!-ty time at school, so I spent a lot of time on my xbox playing Halo 3; I always loved the game. I saw some guy with the septagon next to his name and decided I wanted it too, leading me here.

In the years I have been here, I've been in various communities, notably Owners of the Katana, Minecrafters and #bungienet. There have been good times and bad times, but always a place to go and hide from real world problems. This may be a bad technique for dealing with things, but I doubt anybody can stand being in utter loneliness all day every day. I really believe that private groups are the best things about this website. They give users the opportunity to form close bonds with one another; at least as close as the internet allows. Exposure to these forums and different communities has led me to become a true cynical bastard, and I relish that.

For the most part bungie.net has been a part of my every day life for the past 4 years. This, of course, is excluding study time where I take a temporary leave of absence in the knowledge that I will return when exams are done (this works by the way, plus you get a trust rating boost when you get back ;)).

Every year I spent on this website I perceived it in a different way as I grew up into adulthood. These days, it is simply a website where you can talk to people with similar interests. However, back in the day this was not the case. I'm sure many younger members reading this can relate to how special the site is to them.

It will always irk me that I never got to meet anybody from the website IRL or that I never went to PAX, but I guess that can't be helped.

Most people who have never been exposed to internet communities simply will never understand what they mean to those who are engrained into them.

Sadly, my girlfriend is one of them and has decided that I have to choose between her or the website and it doesn't take a genius to work out what decision I made. IRL comes first, it just has to. I don't know if it will ever change, but I doubt it will.

This means I have to say goodbye to everything here. I thought I'd post it here rather than anywhere else because this was my favourite forum.

I will miss all the people and all the groups. I never thought that I'd actually be saying goodbye to this website because of somebody else.

I wish everyone well in their future lives and hope that they achieve whatever they want to achieve.

Goodbye :(

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

Good riddance.....?

@Helveck

Just an Average Joe...

You're an idiot.

If you're choosing between a website or a girlfriend, you either have website addiction issues, or your girlfriend is a controlling psychopath who you will likely regret being with in a few months from now.

I'm not sure that this is the place for this type of thread, or if you recall that I am that old guy from OTK, but I will say to your;

Sadly, my girlfriend is one of them and has decided that I have to choose between her or the website and it doesn't take a genius to work out what decision I made. IRL comes first, it just has to.

Is that yes, IRL should always be first and foremost, but this too is part of your RL.
Any person making you chose to be something other than who you are,...... you need to look for another girlfriend.
No person should ever make you decide on your pastime activities unless they are detrimental and/or harmful to you. Would this girl give you as much latitude as to change her way of doing things if you were to demand that she change?

I can tell you from past heartache and experience, NO GF should ever wield such authority over you. You're way to young to settle. If you give her that kind of power now, you will always be under her will later on in life, if you two make it together.

Man up, prioritize for YOU, and make wise decisions (in all things). Everything else will work out in the end.

Edit: What Helveck said, only not as caustic.

Key

How much are you on this site that choosing between your site and your girlfriend is even a decision you need to make?

That's like choosing between eating cereal for breakfast every day and playing on a soccer team. They both take up time and yet are very disconnected.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Sadly, my girlfriend is one of them and has decided that I have to choose between her or the website and it doesn't take a genius to work out what decision I made. IRL comes first, it just has to. I don't know if it will ever change, but I doubt it will.

I don't see you on that much so I don't believe you spend an unhealthy amount of time on here. That seems kind of controlling and I don't understand how if you aren't with her for some time, you can't use Bungie.net.

If she is the controlling type of girlfriend, it is probably not going to work out. I would try and set some ground rules because caring about you using Bungie.net is odd.

But I don't know all the details but you got to do what makes you happy.

It seems a bit extreme to make you stop visiting a website completely unless you are completely obsessed with it. Either way, good bye.

I'm not trying to sound like a jerk, but you can actually leave Bungie.net without telling us your life story about why you are now deciding to leave Bungie.net. Typically people just leave.

Threads like this usually limit any kind of discussion because there's nothing to discuss, unless you were planning on the whole community to say "NO COME BACK" or "We will miss you."

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

She doesn't sound like a good girlfriend if she's forcing you too choose between her or a simple internet forum... She sounds ridiculously possessive and needy of attention.

But whatever, it's your life not mine, so I imagine you know what you are doing. I knew you as The Storm and I liked you as a fellow member. Yet another good member that abandons us.

Goodbye, and I hope it was worth it. You know where we will always be.

If you're choosing between a website or a girlfriend, you either have website addiction issues, or your girlfriend is a controlling psychopath who you will likely regret being with in a few months from now.

Also, you're 17/18. How could you not have more than enough time for both?
