Subject: The Five Factions

My name is Mark Mezzetta and I was a beta tester for Bungie's game Oni and Take Two's game Myth 3: The Wolf Age.

Sorry if it seems like I am double posting this, but only got one response in the Bungie universe forum (thanks MickelPickel).

To pass time, how about we try to guess what we think the five factions represent. Let's see how many, if any, we come close to when the game comes out.

Seven Seraphs: Conglomerate of alien races in the same mold as the Pfhor/Covenant. This seems to be the most popular Bungie shirt in their office, Seraph is a Covenant vehicle, so Book It! ;)

FWC: The human military coalition, playing the role the UNSC/ONI played in Halo.

New Monarchy: The rebellious human group serving under a leader/king. Their main rivals are the FWC.

Dead Orbit: Ancient, advanced civilization similar in vain to the Jjaro/Forerunners. They have been lost and trapped on a moon like structure orbiting a planet. (i.e. W'rkcacnter were trapped on the sun of planet Lh'owon)

Osiris: A religious cult who are outcasts to human society, possibly discovered ancient alien technology on their adventure. Either following an alien supreme (think prophets in Halo) as worshipers or leading the way to lowly alien slaves.

This could be fun for now...

Something has been bothering me about our little five factions theory as of late. If there are indeed five playable factions in Destiny, then for what reason did Bungie omit the Seven Seraphs and Osiris from the list of Bungie day shirts? We know those shirts exist, we've seen Bungie Employees wear them, but they're not in the store. Why?

And in today's mailsack, when asked which Bungie Day Avatar they liked the most, the Seven Seraphs avatar and the Osiris Avatar didn't get a single vote from the 8 participating employees. Is that sheer chance? Or do they not relate to those avatars as strongly as the others for a reason?

What if FWC, Dead Orbit, and New Monarchy are the only playable factions, and Osiris and the Seven Seraphs are neutral factions? Three playable factions, and two neutral factions...

That actually makes a lot of sense, there was no reason to leave out the Osiris and Seven Seraphs shirts, so they must have something planned.

According to last week's mailsack, they will be releasing the other shirt avatars from Bungie Day soon. We've seen recent pictures of Bungie employees with Seven Seraphs shirts, so it's just a matter of time when they release the other two. They probably only released the Red, White, and Blue shirts because of the patriotic symbol and didn't want to release all at once.

Makes sense. I hope that we get an official reason for why they were left out. If we don't it will certainly make sense when we finaly play the game.

I'm also hoping that there is something horrible for one of the current factions, just for the lulz...

Or are the ones withheld the horrible ones?

I'm gonna finish it. Just like Jigga did to the pyramid.

Have you ever thought that these "factions" are just a rouse to throw us off the real stuff going on in destiny.

I read the first paragraph of your post and was about to write a response with the exact idea as in your last paragraph, then I finished reading...

But just to add to it, even though I know it's baseless speculation, Osiris sounds as if it could be some sort of Star Wars Empire-esque entity and Seven Seraphs could be... like.. a resistance movement? But then what would that make the other three? Pawns all at war with each other? I don't know. Still, I think the faction idea is the only one that makes sense at this point.

Great minds discuss ideas

Average minds discuss events

Small minds discuss people

Were we even told these are factions? They could just be things that exist in the Density universe, like companies or something.

We were never told they were factions, however, the way they've been presented to us, as avatars, themes, t-shirts, they are almost inviting us to choose one we like and supported it with a variety of paraphanellia.

Brownie lives!

"10000?"

I'm still curious as to why the Rubeus symbol was below the tag on the shirts.

It's highly unlikely that they're companies. Why would they make this big of a deal about it without it being some sort of big deal in the actual universe? It's as if before the release of Halo to tease it Bungie made shirts with the Halo logo in the upper right with logos of companies that make weapons and vehicles that are totally irrelevant in the Halo universe.

In the words of Harry S. Plinket, "That don't make no sense."

For me I believe that this game may not have aliens, and will feel like eve. For me seven seraph is the name to the council that leads the organization, which include seven people, who are referred to as seraphs. Maybe legendary warriors like the nazguls.

Anyway, I will explain more later.
