If interoperability is the aim here, I don't see why you couldn't simply download a tool like this to your computer, create a map, upload it to Bungie, then download/play it on your Xbox, PC, Playstation, etc...
I like the way you talk about what you talk about. Interoperability in video games (PC to Game, Game to Tablet, Tablet to PC which then goes to Game, etc.) is used largely in a gimmicky sense and not very practically (in my opinion) in the game market today. If Bungie could find a way to make this work in a way that makes sense and actually encourages people to use those off-console resources, that'd be amazing.

A map creator type program sounds like just the thing, as everyone wants to make maps and stuff. It's human nature to be creative!
Don't get your hopes too high about this. We've been suggesting a PC tool that can export files to a game on console for years. Hell, I remember when I made a thread about it when Reach was announced, and suggested the exact same thing. Even posted an exact copy of my thread on the 343 site for Halo 4.

No-one delivered.
To be fair, 343 has never worked with anything close to Bungie's Forge program (for created maps) until this last year, and so to expect them to adapt it to a PC-based system that exports to a server which can be accessed on your console is a bit unfair. However, I do not think it is out of the realm of possibility for Bungie to do something like this. Plus, if you think about it incredibly optimistically, it doesn't take too much suspension of disbelief to come to the conclusion that Bungie wanted to wait to do something like that for their pet-project that they've been working on since 2007 or earlier.

Also, I wasn't just talking about map-making software. I was also talking about any sort of tool utilized via mobile phone app, tablet app, on-site app, downloadable app, etc. etc. (like the World of Warcraft on-site Auction House idea I had in the link provided) which bridged the gap between Bungie.net and the game. Bungie.net would now be a means with which you achieve in-game ends, therefore making out-of-game resources (while unnecessary) very handy things for the regular user to...er...use.

All of my rambling aside, I'm just talking about some sort of tool, resource, or database that could be accessed somewhere out of the game that can play a big part in the game itself. It'd add a new element to the game and give Bungie that edge they'd need to make this game be a fitting follow up to Halo (which not an easy act to follow, I might add).

I'm going to say no for any type of content creation tool for making your own worlds from scratch. The same reason Microsoft didn't allow similar tools for existing games like The Elder Scrolls for example.

Microsoft considers them mods which they just don't allow. I want to say the reason is all about money. With the right tools the community could certainly create fantastic content, which being free, would hurt their chances of making more money on DLC they make. A sad but very reasonable truth from a business perspective.

Now as for a forge type editor, sure. Simple map editors that lets you use existing objects to create maps is much different. Historically for Halo, some forge maps were splendid works, but they were not entirely new maps.

I believe so.

What we need to know is how it fits in the game. If its a mmofps, and a whole binch of players on one map, then what is its role. Will it be for arcade. Plus how many people per map. Dedicated sercevers.

But Microsoft isn't in charge of Bungie anymore except for the fact that they're console will be hosting Bungie's game. Bungie can do whatever they want with their game as far as user-created content goes.

Considering its on the 360 what do you think the normal game shall be doing. If its doing alot then its going to be hard as hell to add it. I mean a planetside 2 like game is not gonna allow forge.

Worlds? I thought Destiny was text base.

Why limit ourselves?

You have entered planet Dead Orbit
> look
You see a lamp, a carpet, and a door
> look under carpet
There is a rusty knife under the carpet
> Take rusty knife
A rusty knife has been added to your inventory
> stab Izak609
You stab Izak609 with a rusty knife
Izak609 is dead

The multiplayer will be epic! To the quickest typer goes the victory.

But they are in charge of what gets released for their console. The argument has been fought plenty of times over in Bethesda's forums. Microsoft will not allow any type of user created content ported from PC. As for an editor built into the game, that is a different story.

Well, what if the scale of the game is so simultaneously huge and small that you could play on your own world but having a custom world wasn't that big of a deal? As in, having a custom world was just as big a deal as a forge map.

That way, no planets would be released via DLC. But, if Microsoft still wasn't satisfied, there could easily be lots of micro-transaction tools to buy, features to buy, and biomes to use to make your planet better? That'd be endless levels of moniez. Just look at things like "Words with Friends" where people will spend several different payments of 99 cents for nothing more than color pallets.

The problem is how comprehensive is this game. I believe if ever done will be done outside of the game, mainly in pc. As the game would be full. If it is as great as some of us think. Two discs may be necessary. Or at least some of the work may be done on dedicated servers. Also how much will it push the 360 which has already been stretched so far already.

Yeah Bungie, why don't you just let us make your game?

Math rules the world.

Don't know that it will have the same name but with the dependence machinima has on forge and theater, expect to see them in the next game.
