A little bit of sausage, a little bit of hot sauce, a whole lot of awesome. Have a question? Ask me!
Chapter

So I was thinking about how Bungie loves to listen to us, their community, and keeps open ear and mind if we make a good suggestions. Examples of this would be when DeeJ took in some suggestions from some members about the mailsack and then used them and who knows, they might even be keeping track of the various B.net suggestion threads about how we think it would be improved. They may even be taking all those ideas and considering if they could use them for the new new hawtness.

Anyways, all of this got me thinking. Bungie and HFCS are very selective and secretive about how they pick new Forum Ninjas and they never really tell the community when or how they selected a new one, or at least I don't think so. So here's my question: has Bungie and/or HFCS ever let the community select a Forum Ninja by means of a poll and/or popular demand? If not, do you guys think they ever will?

TL;DR: Have Bungie and HFCS ever let us pick a brand new Forum Ninja? If not, will they ever?

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Hold on lemme get my alts

It's kinda like having an election with special interest groups backing a candidate.

They have the power and people to landslide the vote to get someone who is sympathetic to their cause.

I could see a system of voting for power to be an issue.

@spaboolly

I do not see this ever happening, nor do I believe it would be a good idea.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

They never will (I hope). It would become less about who would make a good moderator and more about who is popular. A poll would be a completely terrible way to decide too, just look at what happened with the Historic Fiction Mail Sack contest.

  • 07.21.2012 12:53 PM PDT

Popularity does not equate to being a good moderator. Just like how there's no real reason to think Lady Gaga would make a good president.

There is really nothing wrong with polls. Just certain people get super mad if other people don't win then they make false accusations and everyone gets mad.

A contest is fine for support, but being a moderator I would not trust people to vote.

You would have 1 group spamming to get 1 guy elected to help them out or have a friend in power.

I think a lot of bias would be involved in the voting process. So I don't like the idea of that.

  • 07.21.2012 12:56 PM PDT

I really think any voting system is flawd. They never work. They are never fair.

And certain people beg for votes in private groups, then get mad when they get half a shirt.

No man you see it is okay to ask people for votes, it is not okay to use alts yourself to vote.

There is no way to tell if someone is cheating at a poll and people can get mad and accuse others of cheating when probably no one used alts in the first place.

The "popular" members would be the ones getting the mod positions which is not ideal.

But, there are many members who are respected and would make good mods. It is just a lot of faith Bungie has to place on the user not to abuse their power. This is a tricky situation.

Yeah it is pretty bad on this site sometimes when there is a poll.

I could see a moderator election getting ugly.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

I would love to see who we get. I would think it would be a great social experiment for the community. No need to put them into power or let them join HFCS. Hell you could do it bracket style like the NCAA tourney and just have people keep voting.

Keep doing 1v1 polls? That sounds hilarious.

Baaaad idea. Popularity contests should not be how mods are chosen. I do like Achilles's idea. I would want to see who gets elected, just out of curiosity.

I don't think people here are ready for that. I notice that if it doesn;t go people's way, things turn... ugly...
