I read the whole thread. All I can say is wow. Just... wow. Half of the thing was derailed by ken and friends arguing over whether a poll that may very well not have been rigged was compromised by alts. The best part of the thread was where ken tried to repeatedly opine how he wished the Community was "better" and more morally pure, as well as overusing the word "drama" more than a preteen girl.

That being said, the obvious answer is that open, pure democracy would never work on this site... at least not efficiently, and I personally wouldn't want mods picked this way because of things such as MM and how they would likely take advantage of the situation, the fact that everyone would nominate the usual people -- such as Cortana (who wouldn't be a bad mod), SJ (who would be a bad mod), and burrito (who would be an even worse mod) -- and also how a good sixth of the user population here is clinically retarded. The current way of election is the best, IMO.Posted by: King Dutchy

Most of us have done nothing but proper debating.
I'll have you know I'm a master debater. :-)

I think this is the last post I'm going to make on this topic so I'll leave with a short, simple and oh so eloquent little phrase....

"It takes a mod to know a mod".
Achronos picks the mods, yet he is not a mod, he's an overlord.
Lol, he certainly does not.

It happened one time
The only time we had a poll.
after countless mail sacksIf nineteen is the same as 'countless' to you, you have my utmost sympathy.

because one person decided to take things too seriously and be an idiot about it all.You mean dozens of people.

One time doesn't constitute an apprehension of allowing the community to vote on stuff.Yes. Yes it does. I'm concerned about your future in society if you honestly think otherwise.
Surely you're not actually this stupid.

Is this why we cannot have nice things?
Precisely.

I find this part laughable. Why does the community still insist on latching onto SJ and C5? They're around, but nowhere near as active as they used to be. It's like you read somewhere that they used to be really well-known, and use their names as an attempt to make it seem like you have an understanding of the community. The fact is, 99.9% of this community isn't fit to be a mod at all, and the ones who are, fit a criteria that isn't established by us.

Instead of simply reiterating that it would become a popularity contest, why not suggest a way of getting around that? I'm sure if you put your heads together you could come up with something.

Just to throw something out there for you to start with: what if the community nominated people for us (ninjas) to [potentially] select from?

seems like a cool Idea

Yikes. Let's either get this back on topic, or let this die. Mmmk?

On topic: No. Our way is better. While the help from the Community would be appreciated, they would most likely choose the most popular members on these forums, and that's not always the best option.

also Agree with him too.

In my opinion lets just let this up to Bungie and the ninjas If they want to select new people we can count on them to make the right chooses for us.

They've been doing this for a very long time and the know who to look for.

Yeah, Bungie and ninjas, make the right chooses!

I feel like "Make the right chooses!" should be a new site tagline. You've made me giggle, EZ. don't start taking this thread too seriously ;)

I don't see a reason to change a system that is obviously not broken. Even just for one mod. Its been working fine since before most of us even knew about Bungie.

Don't fix what aint broken. (or something like that)

Hey, people.

At this time, there are no plans to conduct a popularity contest on the forum to select new Ninjas. Given the current population, our current army of mods are more than capable of managing the scene (that is not a dare). As the day approaches when new faces come crashing upon our gates, we will determine how to staff up. I am sure that our Ninjas all have people in mind that would be good addition to their ranks.

You are welcome to continue discussing this, if you feel it serves some purpose. I just don't want expectations running wild, as tends to happen in a topic as hot as this.

Love,

DeeJ

I doubt the majority of people who posted in this thread weren't even thinking about it, let alone have high expectations of becoming a Ninja.
If this thread was made by a Bungie Employee however, such as yourself, then that would be a different matter.

LOL at trying to look like you're coming at the situation politely and objectively while also insulting the idea of the community having any involvement.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Well we are definitely not ready for this for many reasons (as I have been trying to say for the last few pages). I think any community generated result would be met with heavy resistance and flaming. Whether it be someone won another person didn't like or accusations of cheating.

I don't think we should elect mods, maybe some kind of community leaders or something.

I do not believe that the outcome of this thread would be very different, even if you confirmed much more clearly, or at a sooner time... or didn't say anything at all.

Sounds intresting, but I doubt that would ever happen, or be allowed.

If this were true, there wouldn't be a 150+ reply thread in the Flood with a title that contains a word that bypassed the censor.

A lot of people, including me, aren't going to take what you are saying seriously until you respond to the criticism of multiple people's posts. Multiple people have quoted you explaining to you why what you are saying is irrational, but you haven't responded to most, if not all of them.

Yeah, they just love to argue and they always try to make their way, even if Bungie doesn't need it.

I think "arguing" and debating are normal and expected in any discussion, especially one about a serious subject regarding Bungie.net. It is natural for people to have conflicting opinions and the fact that not everyone agrees means the issue is worth the dicussion.
