Well it wouldn't be fair because it's just a big popularity contest. Plus I don't really like those guys anyways, they're practically rubbing it in.

I'd take on the job, if anyone would let me.

It would be a popularity contest. And people could just have alts vote for them.

Hold on lemme get my alts

/kidding

And that is why this would not work.

Oh, I see. You've decided in your head what is going to happen in the event that you actually went through with this based on some sort of image you have of the Bungie Community painted in your head ever since the t-shirt incident of a group of people who all take fun contests way too seriously and who all have access to an army of alts, and so you're scared of ever trying any sort of community-based voting system whether it be in the Mail Sacks or in this hypothetical Ninja election because of the fact that you're scared of looking bad as a Community Manager in the event that something that isn't your fault and happens as a result of one person's actions ever takes place again.

I see. Perfectly reasonable. I also like how you've pulled out a Deadliest Warrior-esque computer program to run simulations of this Ninjelection which has never happened before to come to such a concrete, obvious, and infallible solution. I'll be PMing you later about that program. I'm in debt to this guy, and I wanna see if that thing can pick the Lotto numbers.

Man, usually it helps to pause a moment and think about something before you post it.

What DeeJ is talking about is the Community's affinity for alts, and how quick they are to want to send them into action for any situation where they could be used, Ken awful picture fiasco as an example. Not to mention, the first person to mention 'getting his alts' is the one who insisted up and down he never used any, and was unaware that any were being used. If he could muster up hundreds of alts, who's to say that groups like FT aren't going to all out when it comes to picking a forum mod? This is far from an honest, reputable community. DeeJ has every right to say what he did.

This one agrees, alt accounts are abused too much and too often.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

You realize the only reason people tried to call alts and dishonesty was because the person they wanted to win wasn't winning. No one person has hundreds of alts, if you think 1 person is using that many alts, I don't know what to tell you.
(I am going to come out to say I have 0 alternate accounts, this is it).

There is nothing wrong with asking people for votes though, I know the Mythic group has done it, I have done it. Asking for people to vote, especially in an election, is a common practice in many elections.

The entire alt craze was a fabrication and a way by some to instigate trolling among the community.

But you are right about one thing, certain groups will want certain members to be a mod just like how certain political parties and groups support their members.

I do, you are trying to talk about the flaws of the "system" and trying to make claims that users have hundreds of alts to vote on things and that if certain people win something then they are "obviously" cheating.

I really think people will try and always call another candidate is cheating, even though it is kind of shameful to do in a real election with no proof.

I think people at times take this stuff too seriously and get rather mad. It is sad we can't do this stuff without these conflicting things but they have a habit of spilling out into the mains and turn something into another fiasco.

Remember way back during the Reach beta, Bungie gave out like 1,000 codes for early access to the Beta on their front page? Remember what everyone who didn't get a beta code said? "The people who got them cheated, by using programs to copy and paste all the codes!" Remember how, in reality, the people who took the codes were just quick?

Ken's right, people will say anything to discredit their opponents, no matter how ridiculous or unproven it is.

HELL NO! I'm glad Deej already shut this down. The community already showed that its not ready for something like that. Just look at the History fiction contest. Somebody got half of a shirt that they didn't deserve. If people cheated for a shirt I can only imagine what would happen if we were voting for a mod. We would get mods that didn't deserve to be there. If some kids from this forum became mods I swear I would stab my eye balls so I would never come back.

I like the way mods are selected right now. Out of all the mods that have been choose for modship I can only think of two that were really bad and they no longer are mods. I won't name them off because I don't want to single them out.

Ken got votes too fast for me to consider anything but Forum Tryhards using alts. Hell, most of them were in that thread admitting it. It had nothing to do with Mythics being 'mad' about Ben not winning, we didn't even notice the thread/poll until well after it was rolling along, and even then, we didn't care until Ken's vote lead became blatantly obvious.

Everyone knew there were alts at play, plain and simple. It's far from ridiculous and unproven, and frankly, if Ken is still bothered by people saying as much, he'll stop trying to convince everyone that the poll results were legitimate.

Dude calm down, you realize that no one cheated last time right?

I think the problem is what I saw appear at the end of the first paragraph.

I quote: "If some kids from this forum became mods I swear I would stab my eye balls so I would never come back."

That is a tad extreme. That is why we have bickering, because "some" people hate to see other people win or succeed in something so they want to make sure someone else doesn't win by either trying to insinuate they are cheating and causing chaos.

That is the real issue, I guarantee you that no one is cheating . It is all just people who can;t stand others and the thoughts of others winning something.

People here need to learn to clam down. Like we were taught when we were little, if you don't have anything nice to say about someone, don't say it at all. That would solve so many issues, but I notice many people here are incapable of that and then we get these pointless arguments.

This will never happen. It's in the powers of Achronos only (and theoretically runningturtle too) to decide who is a Ninja and who isn't.

I'm sure there'll be another batch of Ninjas initiated when Bungie come out of the dark/New Hawtness.

Yes, you can use the historic fiction contest as basis for an argument about this thread, and the use of alts. But we don't need to chase our tails and kick up dirt on eachother directly related to those events. Do we children?

I can't prove that anyone was cheating, so I can't claim anyone was cheating. In the real world, you can;t claim people did something then have no evidence to back it up. It is like the witch trials of Salem.

Lets not try and make this about specific users.

My point (which you completely missed yet ironically showed) is that some users despise other users. It is pretty bad at the site and is one of the biggest issues in the community.

What happens is that if a certain user is winning something another group hates, then the other group tried to claim that user cheated and that the contest is fixed. In reality though, neither side probably did not cheat and it is just fueled by hate.

Because of the hatred and inability of the community to deal with others, we couldn't do this. Not because of cheating, but became of how immature many people are on here. I enjoy my time here on Bungie.net but the amount of hate our "community" displays to other users is appalling and honestly should be better enforced by mods who let it happen.

I think, as a community, we need to learn to keep this stuff off the forums, including private groups. This drama is seriously getting old and it is only going to get worse.

So you honestly believe there wasn't any poll manipulation going on at all in that thread, and that every single vote was legitimate and unbiased?

No one is saying that "these people shouldn't be mods". What people ARE saying, from what I see, is "I don't want this method used for this reason". It isn't a hate campaign against anyone and no one should take any offense from any examples used to prove or disprove a point.

The historic fiction contest was a shambles, in my opinion. It's a perfectly fine example of why we, the user-base, shouldn't have total control over a vote for something special. I'm fine with the community nominating moderators. But to give the community the final word on who gets promoted is just begging for a repeat of the historic fiction vote.

And that's where you are wrong....This community doesn't hate on people that win things legitimately, they hate on cheaters.(That is my opnion I can't speak for the community.)
In other mail sacks that were won legitimately I saw no hate from the community...

I think people will get mad at any method used if certain users win or compete in something. The point I was making is that some users despise other users so much that them winning something is grounds to say they or cheated or they get so mad they try and get them kicked out of it.

That is what our community has become. I guarantee you that if there were no mods, you would see so much more of this drama pour into the mains. I mean, you can still see it all the time, the mods just don;t ban subtle flaming or being being a jerk generally which should be more heavily enforced.
