Subject: Do you use the Automatic Responder? Why or Why not?

I don't see a need for it, unless you're an employee who receives hundreds of PM's a day.

I like sending personal replies, with a pinch of milk and honey in each one.

No. I think it's a very "corporate" thing to have.

It's one of those features that are helpful if you need it, but most people won't need it.

I have it set as an anti group response that's pre-typed. It doesn't auto respond but I can use the pre-typed auto response.

Why not stop by my File Share while you're here?

Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

I don't use it, and because I'm too lazy to use it. The only reason I ever used it was when almost all of my PM's were group invites. Now that it has settled down, I just don't feel like using it.

What a hipster.

No I don't use it, and actually the only reason is just because I'm too lazy to set mine. But I like your reason Lobster, it sounds legit. If anyone asks why mine isn't set, that is now the reason why. Shhhh

Intolerance is the highest level of stupidity and inbred thinking.

No one here relieves enough PMs to warrant the use of an auto-responder, unless you have salmon or gold colored text. It honestly irks me when I get an auto-responder because I read that as "your PM wasn't worth my time".

Granted, there are those people that just have it go off automatically whenever they get a PM come in, and I find that just as annoying. When you call a person, and get the answering machine, that's fine. When you send someone a PM and get the answering machine, well, you already sent the message, so why do you need to know that you're leaving a message?

The only time I can warrant the use of an auto-responder is in the case of a prolonged absence. If I go on vacation for a while, and I know I won't be able to access Bnet, then yes, I turn it on. I get plenty of questions regarding things I'm involved with on here, and it's nice to let that person know they won't be hearing back from me. Then they know I'm not just ignoring them.

But in general, there is no reason to use your auto-responder 24/7. It's annoying. I hate sending a few PMs and then having an inbox full of junk.

  • 07.21.2012 8:23 PM PDT

No. I've never even made a message for it, just because I don't receive near enough private messages to even warrant making one. I can understand if you're going to have to go away for a couple of months, but besides that, I don't really see any need for a regular member to have one.

PEANUT-BUTTER SLAP!

I don't use it because I don't get enough messages to justify it. More importantly, I feel like it shows that I'm just not listening; it's like calling customer service and getting a recording.

^This, as well as to send a pre-canned response to people who PM me questions about XBox Live.

That's what it's for. Turning it on just to say "I got your message" is pointless and redundant.

I don't use it often. It's not very appropriate, and probably a little confusing. So I only send it when I just want to confuse the hell out of someone.
