Does this mean anything for Bungie? Does anyone have any details?

Subject: Has anyone noticed that Activision was just sold?

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

I was aware that there was a possibility. I didn't hear about an actual deal being made. Link?

  • 07.22.2012 12:07 AM PDT

Means nothing. Activision is just Bungies publisher. I would love to see a link.

  • 07.22.2012 12:14 AM PDT

Judging from the lack of news when I searched Activision, I doubt that it was sold, last I heard Vivendi was having difficulty unloading Activision.

Thanks for that. And yea sorry I got it from the title of a Pach attack youtube video. Description says its just a possibility. Damn those misleading youtube titles! And alcohol, damn you alcohol!! No, I'm sorry...I didn't mean that.

Just a publisher? One that Bungie signed a 10 year contract with? 'Just' one of those?

Edit: It's businessy and stuff! I'm sure it will mean something.

lulz

That's crazy. You'd think they'd be a big time company with never worrying about selling...especially with all the big titles under them...I am sure even if they DO get sold, someone good will pick them up.

You have no idea how revolting I can be.

DeeJ's Challenge

What that video failed to tell you was that it isn't Activision that is possibly being sold. It's Activision Blizzard. Should this happen, Bungie and Activision (Main) will not be changed in any way.

Activision is just the publisher, the only thing it would mean is that a different company could end up publishing Bungie's games.

What would you have them do if they were planning to publish 10 years worth of games with Activision other than sign a contract that lasts 10 years?

Would it be legal for Bungie to purchase the shares? I guess if Bungie believes it has a 2 billion dollar IP on it hands, it might be worth it...

I'm gonna finish it. Just like Jigga did to the pyramid.

I want to take that guy's (person in the link) voice and use it as my own. A bit like skinning his face and wearing it like a mask over my face, except with his voice.

Brownie lives!

"10000?"

I don't think it will affect Bungie in any way if Activision does end up being bought.

  • 07.22.2012 7:00 PM PDT

Folks, it's just the majority share in the company. It's not like everyone currently at Activision will vanish overnight only to be replaced by a rather quirky but radically different cast.

If Activision is sold, it won't affect Bungie in the short term. Long Term? Perhaps, but it's nothing to worry about.

Halo: CE Anniversary Achievement Idea
C-C-C-CANNON BREAKER!
Let Sgt. Johnson die on Halo.

Well Bungie does own the IP to Destiny, so I don't think too much would change if Activision was sold.

Watch out. If I post in your thread, chances are it'll die. I've been cursed, and if I kill your thread, I'm sorry.

I thought of this myself. Just look at the success of Halo. Bungie has become one of the biggest names in gaming. Imagine the awesome stuff we would see if Bungie got to be their own publisher and got to set their own schedule with a an IP (that I would hope will be) better than Halo.

It could be a game-changer for sure.

Console market is dominated by publishers.

All Bungie had to do is move to the PC master race and develop their game without the need of a publisher.

+1 for you good sir.

I don't think it will effect Bungie so much as they are not owned by MS anymore. Just means their new partner will have a few more restrictions.

Bye.

The only problem I could see arising from Microsoft's possible acquisition is in 10 years time, when the current contract is void, and Bungie is looking to renew their partnership.

Other than that it won't make much difference to the current IP.

Et Eärello Endorenna utúlien.
Sinome maruvan ar Hildinyar.

Bungie is independent now, I don't think it would affect them, Destiny's IP still belongs to them.

My desktop that I use to play some games on probably cannot handle the graphics or any other specs of Destiny, let alone its sequels.
