If the halos were designed to kill the food of the flood and ULTIMATELY kill the flood and it worked in many simulations according to 343 guilty spark. Then the halos didn't do their job the first time the forerunners activated them. Proof you ask?
First, STFU, don't attack me when you don't have any better ideas youself. First off the Halos were not ment to kill the flood, they were ment to kill anything with sufficient biomass to support the flood for their combat and carrier forms.
THE FLOOD IS STILL HERE and we are fighting them. I read some guy's "hot topic" post about how the world is going to END anyways and i kinda agree. If the HALOs didn't work back then, then why would it be any better now. I don't know HOW bungie will explain this in HALO 3.
Second, once again, the Halos were not ment to kill the flood. They were ment to kill their food, which it did, except for, in my theory, the Forunners who are the present day humans.
MY REASONS FOR MY THEORY
1. 343 GS refers to all humans as 'Reclaimers', which is shone in Halo: The flood when 343 GS and MC are in the Library, and MC comes across a Marvin Mobuto, Staff Sargent, and 343 GS says," The other Reclaimer."
2. In Halo 2 Tartarus makes Miranda Keyes activate Halo with the Index. Why didn't he do it himself?
3. Master Cheif and the other Spartans seem to, for some reason, be able to use Forunner technology, even though they haven't seen it before. This is shone by MC being able to activate the energy bridge in Halo 1. And even Cortana didn't know how to use the Forunner Technology untill she was put into the system at the Control Room.
And that crap about me needing food after a day, well if I was asleep I would not need food because my body uses very little energy when I am asleep. So, from a logical standpoint, when the flood ran out of food, which eventually will happen after being in one place for such a long time, they would go into a sleep so as to stay alive.
So think before you start to attack my logic, your theory on the flood makes no sense at all. How would they still be alive if they had no food, and did not go into hibernation for 101,217 years, which was after the Halo rings activated, and destroyed all sentient life.
