Bye.

B.net, in it's current form, allows you to save threads. Which, in turn, makes referencing and sourcing a whole lot easier. But it does have one drawback, it only links to the original post body.

What I'm proposing is a refined "Save Thread" ability with the additional option of saving specific posts. Instead of searching through a thread, page by page, trying to find the information you are looking for, you would be taken directly to the post you selected for saving.

This is basically how it would look and function:

Saved Threads
Vanishing Posts
(Saved post) - Achronos

Any Opinions?

I remember this being brought up just recently. As long as it goes along side the current save thread feature I would like this.

I would then be a happy man if I could categorize the saved posts. There are people on here that say some really smart things, those things are really useful for debates.

Vanishing Posts
Now I find myself going over the posts I made in the titles thread half a year ago.

I hope the New Hawtness includes a complete overhaul of the forums and groups.

I would enjoy this. I have an abundance of saved threads that I have forgotten where the humorous or informative post was.

Great minds think alike. I honestly didn't see it so I apologise for stealing your thread :-(.

Not a bad idea. Probably could be accomplished via a script in the meantime, if anyone was willing to try it (for all I know, it already exists).

I like this idea. Especially on considerably large threads with a significant number of posts.

I'm no expert on scripts or anything, but wouldn't the saving have to take place while it's still possible to reply to the post (meaning it's not archived) so that you could obtain the post ID for permalinking purposes (since BNet doesn't have a permalink on posts)?

Nope. The reply button is an easy way of obtaining the post ID, but it exists elsewhere in the code as well...for example, anchors.

I'm not sure at all what an anchor is, but it's good to know that what I thought wasn't true. That'd be incredibly inconvenient.

Every post that's made on the site has a unique postID that's stored on the site. While we can't see it publicly, you can still get it..... it's just a lot more difficult.

Take this thread for example;
http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=259.
It's been archived. But I can still link to the first reply.

What's this mean? Not much. But it does tell us that archiving will have no effect on linking to specific posts if this implemented.

I would definitely like that as well. Keeping the thread in its unamended original context would be cool.

It would be cool to have a button/link that appears when you press the drop down arrow at the top right of a post. Would keep the threads looking the same while adding the functionality of the save post feature.

Hey, you can see me in that save post link. Michael Scott link. Not bad.

I like the idea.

  • 07.24.2012 11:49 AM PDT

I created it a while back but shut it down since I couldn't figure out a way to stop Coup from interfering with the data that was sent to me.
