the new health system is BETTER. if your shield recharges, your health "recharges" as well. this keeps you from needing health packs and camping at them. the faster shield recharge makes the game go at a faster pace by keeping people from taking too long to stop for their shields to recharge. so, if your shield gets popped and get shot a few times, your shields will recharge, and you will be unharmed.

Note: No health packs required.

The HUD is obviously not finished. There is no second ammo counter while dual wielding yet. I'm assuming that health also wasn't put in. I don't know why though.

So we lose some strategy. The shield/health system was beautiful! It was one of my favorite parts of Halo. It made the game so much fun since it was so strategic

the faster shield recharge makes the game go at a faster pace by keeping people from taking too long to stop for their shields to recharge.
If all of my life was my shields, I'd be spending a whole lot longer waiting to recharge. If they wanted the game to be fast-paced, they'd take out the shield and double the health bar, since your level of health doesn't matter because it isn't going to go up.

so, if your shield gets popped and get shot a few times, your shields will recharge, and you will be unharmed.
Loss of more strategy. So you could take down almost all of an enemy's life, but your enemy could just wait to recharge to perfect health. I do not like that.

Note: No health packs required.
How's that a good thing?

just remember guys, halo 2 at e3 was not the finished product. they still have a while to work on it, and from what i hear, they didn't even have a flashligh. i think they took out the helath so it would be quicker games. more mass kills make for better pictures.

you were dead with one pistol shot when you had no shields, yes, but what about the assault rifle? what about the shotgun at 30 meters? maybe you could survive 2 or 3 needler rounds.

for me, the health bar has been the basis of countless tactical decisions in single and multiplayer

Too right, it leads to many varied tactical decisions on my part, and would probably do the same for Master Chief himself. Remember, there's only one MC so he'd be making tactical decisions as well for self-preservation and would change his decisions, say, if he could survive only four plasma rifle shots, and would choose to snipe instead. If the bar goes, what else are we going to have to tell us when we're dead, other than the shields? Losing the health bar sucks, I hope they include it in the full game, or at least an indicator of your health that's just as visible.

Man, you guys. If it didn't work, they wouldn't have put it in! Has ANYONE who played it at e3 complained about the lack of "functionality or strategy"? The only complainers here are those who haven't. Bungie knows what they're doing, and anyone who has been a fan pre-Halo would know this. They wouldn't do anything that wouldn't make it at least twice as good.
I LOVE the idea. And i think this makes the game much more tactical and realistic. Seriously, whold having less health really affect what weapon you bring into any situation? I don't see how. I'm still curious as to how they're going to balance things like charged PP shots, but I'm not anxious. I know it will be awesome! As for people saying that he has armor therefore can take more shots...consider that in the original the marines had just as much health than you, only no shields.

P.S. Oh, yeah. I've been frequenting bungie.net for a long time, but I just recently decided to get in on the action here. So, hi all!

Old GTs; RebelRobot, Flamedude

its early days yet, perhaps its just not finished yet, perhaps its a multiplayer mode, who knows?

i (at least at the mo) dont like the idea of an undefined health bar, i like to know whats going on, cos then i base my tactics on it based on the risk. he's got a new suit with better shields, sure thats cool, but he's not weaker is he? he's wearing formiddable armour plating, it should take more than a few rounds regardless of shields. thats just my opinion though.

if it is a change for good then i will get over it and learn to play all over again, but i think some people will take fewer risks. snipers will be everywhere!!

Dude, MC's not getting weaker: EVERYBODY's getting weaker. It's more realistic this way. Trust Bungie.

When I played it, the health bar wouldn't depleat as fast, besides this makes for far more interesting gameplay!

i dont think ive ever played a health camper and ive been playing online since the game came out, so basically if ur arguement is that health campers will have to play the game then thats only applying to like 1% of all online players, people that i play PLAY, they dont wait for shields to recharge and they they dont health pack hoard......so anyway, the new health system i think is strange, after ur shields are out then you have 2-3 shots to live, personally i like (on the occasion that my health is depleted in Halo online) to go get health so i can continue the killing.....

I like getting health after a crazy battle, being in red bar and fresh all over again...

When I played, it was pretty much a guesstimation where my health was. Any new player to the Halo series would greatly dislike this, I would much rather prefer the bar system again, accept twice as many bars, so you REALLY know how bad your hurt

NAY, i use the health bar alot in my game.... i would like to know how much damage i have on me, so i can pick up a health pack... and yes i like health pack, sheilds, and camo..
I think it makes the game harder for you...

People still don't seem to get it... You don't take damage that way. If your sheilds are down, you're totally vulnerable and can only take a few hits, meaning take cover or die! There IS no health to track via a health bar. Keeping you're shields up is the most important thing.
I just think all the naysayers are looking at this the wrong way. It seems that they think there is still a health meter that isn't being shown.
I guess everyone should wait to play it to formulate an opinion.

I don't think there will be no health. I mean the health/shield systems had no problems before so why change it? Also I know people who play with no shields to put a twist on the game. I know that vehicles will have health but will they have shields also?

The War will wage forever; though with it's fury comes a peace that you will never know here.

I dislike the idea. In multiplayer, it DOES help make tactical decisions, while in single player it does the same.

Hell, I'd be HAPPIEST if it was in, just like in the old game, but I would prefer it in single player rather than multiplayer.

The HUD in the MP demo is NOT finished. That has been confirmed. So it remains to be seen if there will be a health bar

The way I see it Bungie understands that leaving things the same way is boring. I don't dispute the fact that the health bar helps make tactical decisions but the HUD was getting recycled. The new HUD may not be as tactically useful but i looks damn good.

So organized!

Im voting yay. I think its a good decision by Bungie and it makes the game more realistic. If the shields are down then it should only take one or two shots to kill someone, so it makes sense in a Ghost Recon kinda way.

Of course, maybe the health bar is still there, its just smaller, or maybe that was the health bar and there were no shields, or maybe the whole game will change and Cortana will turn into a pink elephant and grow wings and fly away.... you really have no idea. Im sure whatever the -blam!- they do to the game it will still be fun and you wont notice it.
