I don't know if this is just me or not, but it seems like the Spartans in H3 are bigger than the Reach Spartans.

That's because Spartan lls have a Catalytic Thyroid Implant:
Platinum pellet containing human growth hormone catalyst is implanted in the thyroid to boost growth of skeletal and muscle tissues.

It's because the Spartan IIIs were given a (slightly) watered down version of the Spartan II augmentations. While the Spartan IIs received chemical injections and surgical implants (eg bone grafts), the SIIIs only received chemical injections.

This was so the success rate of Spartan IIIs would be 100 percent vs the 33 percent success rate of the SII augmentations. So because the Spartan IIIs missed out on the bone grafts and other implants, they were given very similar chemicals as the Spartan IIs. So this is why Carter, Emile. Jun, Kat and B312 (all Spartan IIIs) are around six foot nine and 230 lbs and Master Chief and Jorge are 7'2 and 7'4 (respectively) and weight around 320 lbs.

Hope this helps.

I came for Halo, but I heard the Tru7h, fought thru Carnage, and stayed for Bungie.

What does this mean for Spartan IV's, assuming they are given augmentations in addition to power armor? They were already fully grown adult soldiers when they volunteered. Would they be less unnaturally large than II's and III's because they already went through puberty?

They may have a different level of augmentation (or none) to prevent that. The size augmentation was to get the Spartan lls into service as fast as possible.

Yeah, they would be probably less unnaturally large like SIIs and SIIIs. Even through the multiplayer sneak peaks, looking at an SIV body, it is much slimmer and less tall than a SII or SIII in MJOLNIR armor.

I'm guessing this is for two reasons. Number one being your reason, they already went through puberty and are full grown adults (augmentations will have a less potent effect).

Also, another thing I was thinking of is since these new breed of Spartans are adults, they may want to one day retire and start a family. In the comics, Spartan II Maria quit to start a family, and even after her augmentations, she was still taller and more muscular than a regular human.

Also, in Halo Glasslands, Captain Serin Osman (a Spartan II washout from failed augmentation procedures) who had her successful augmentations reversed, still looked more musuclar than the average baseline human. An ODST remarked she was still tall (6 foot zero inches) and had a hint of muscular tone (and remember, her augmentations got reversed literally weeks after her failed augmentations procedure).

So maybe these new SIVs are given watered down watered version of the Chrysanthemum (SIII) augmentations and no surgical implants (like the Spartan IIs) so they will look perfectly normal when they choose to leave being a Spartan (it'd be more ethical if they were given a minimum number of years to serve rather than forcing *average* humans to fight in the military like brainwashed child soldiers).

So yeah, TLDR, weaker augmentations because they're adults and more easier to reverse.

Sorry if that was a bit long :/

Yeah, Halsey wanted to create more effective treatments (possibly even to water down a few so more SIIs would survive), but the UNSC needed Spartans ASAP and she was not given enough time.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

You know, more advanced =/= watered down. Spartan II's were guinea pigs, Spartan III's had the more refined and properly applied augmentations, and no, Spartans in Halo 3 are not taller seeing how Spartans in Halo: Reach are pretty much the same height as Master Chief (who's model we use in both campaign and multiplayer).

And if it's about the Elites, in Halo: Reach they actually stand up properly, in 3 they are all hunched down.

320lbs? I thought Spartan II's without armour weighed around 630lbs.

What does weight have to do with a field that is relative to volume not mass?

Except that the 7'2" figure comes from when he is in armor, he is 6'10" outside of it.

and John weights 280 Lbs, while Carter and Jun weight around 250 lbs, that would leave them with less than, what? 14 kilos of difference?

What a waste....

Where the hell do people get the idea that the SIII augmentations are "watered down"? IIRC, Ackerson is actually telling Kurt that the augmentations with the IIIs are even better than they were with the IIs. Does anyone of a list of the SIII augmentations somewhere?

  • 07.25.2012 9:23 AM PDT

All of the above.
And the fact that they have to carry the jetpacks, shields etc

The Halo 4 page on waypoint puts him at 2.18 m and 130 kg.
130 kg is undoubtely outside the armor, same with the 2.18 m number.

It wouldn't make sense to put the inside armor height + outside armor weight.

Outside armor heigh + weight makes better sense just like the character bio's of Noble that were released in the past.

Waypoint Moderators aren't really Moderators, just power hungry and its goal is defend their beloved Halo at all costs. (Meaning that they wank Halo too much.)

BS Angel is alleged foe so, be wary of Waypoint and its moderators! Do not attempt to move to Waypoint. Enter your own risk.

*WARNING* IT IS MY OPINION.

There is no direct evidence suggests that SPARTAN-III augmentation were "watered-down" version, in fact, it's completely opposite- it's superior to SPARTAN-II because of few things showed the power of augmentations. IIRC, during OPERATION: TORPEDO or something, SPARTAN-III easily fought Elites in H2H combat and even easily overwhelmed Elites as well which Master Chief was noted to be struggling with a Elite during mission at Circumference and a elite at Ascendant Justice in First Strike. SPARTAN-II only have two advantage: experience and MJOLNIR. (Later, S-III/II were suggested to be in SPARTAN-IV Program which S-III are more likely to get MJOLNIR armor which it would show that S-III's augmentations enhanced by MJOLNIR would make S-III to be more superior to S-II in terms of augmentative strength, speed, reaction, etc.

And also, training methods for SPARTAN-IIIs were superior to S-II as well, because Fred admitted it.

It's highly likely that SPARTAN-IVs would get same augmentation process as SPARTAN-III did. And, if anyone says that SPARTAN-IV doesnt have augmentations- you're wrong. It was stated that even GEN2 MJOLNIR (it is lightweight, but it is still MJOLNIR.) requires augmentations to operate.

RKO provided evidence for it. Go read it.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

He motioned at Kurt's secure tablet. "Read. New training protocols have been outlined as well as an improved augmentation regime. We've learned much from the unfortunate medical processes Dr Halsey had at her disposal."

Kurt balled his hands into fists, remembering the pain of the bone grafts like glass breaking inside his marrow, and the fire that had burned along every nerve as they had been reengi-neered for enhanced speed.

As he read he started to grasp the opportunities and challenges of this new program. The new bioaugmentations were a quantum leap ahead of those he had received. There were lower projected wash-out rates. There was, however, only a fraction of the original SPARTAN program training time and budget. MJOLNIR armor was to be replaced with something called Semi-Powered Infiltration (SPI) armor systems.

"With these new candidates," Kurt said, "you're trying to do more with less."

Ackerson nodded. "They'll be sent on missions with higher strategic values but correspondingly lower survival probabilities. That's where you come in, Kurt. We need your training as a Spartan, and all your field experience passed along to these candidates. You need to make these Spartans better and train them faster. This program may be the key to our survival in this war."
