Will it be on Steam, a disc, or both? Sorry if they haven't specified yet, all I could find was that it was multi-platform.

Just realized I probably posted in the wrong forum...

Actually, this is the right forum.

But, sadly, I don't know the answer to your question.

The first is set for Xbox 360 / next generation xbox only.

The rest are multi platform and it will be Bungie's decision to go onto steam or not. If its not a pure MMO then it will have a disc, otherwise just expect pure downloadable content, like GW2, WoW, Dust 514 and LoL.

Don't see why it would be...other Destiny speculation is primarily in the septagon.

All I can add to what you said is 1st game will initially be for 360, according to that Activision contract.

Edit: Well then...everything I had to add was taken care of when I got more grapes.

Key

I'm not sure, but considering Steam seems to be the medium through which the majority of developers are choosing to release downloadable games (along with more commercial outlets like Amazon/GameStop download). But an actual disc copy to allow for some sort of "Legendary" Edition would probably be used, too.

This is all speculation of course; nobody knows.

meh...

I would hate bungie if they allowed it to be put on steam. that thing is an abomination to games.

Steam is a lifesaver when the nearest game store is 20 km away.

Dude you are either trolling or just plain stupid, Steam is the future of how games will be distributed and has really thwarted piracy.

I find steam to be a waste of memory and bandwidth. If it had the option to run games without running steam, I wouldn't mind using it as a central hub for connecting to other players and downloading instead of going to the store.

There isn't really that much bandwidth taken up by steam, if its that noticeable then you haven't got a good enough connection to be playing games online anyway.

And I'll agree with you on memory, but that also just means you've got maybe 3 or 4 potatoes worth of a machine. For everyone that's upgraded since 2004, everything is perfectly fine.

It's impossible for them to put it on steam. If memory serves me correctly, there was a bit in the Activision Contract which forbade them from collaborating with Valve. I'll look it up real quick...
...and approved by Licensor, Activision shall have the right to have such Conversion developed by one of its internally-owned studios or by a third party developer, provided that Licensor shall have the right to approve any third party deveioper proposed to be utilized by Activision, such approval not to be unreasonably withheld or delayed (it being expressly understood and agreed by the parties that only an deveioper that is not a competitive risk to Licensor is reasonable for Licensor to approve, and Licensor hereby expressly disapproves of Valve, Epic and Gearbox as potential third party developers for Conversions (unless such third party developer should become an Activision majority or wholly-owned studio), and Licensor cannot disapprove of the use by Activision of an Activision majority or wholly-owned studio), and Licensor shall otherwise provide production, QA, associated management services, and other reasonable assistance to Activision and any internal Activision studio or third party developer in connection with the development of any such Conversions.
Just search for Valve. Not entirely understandable to a non legal person, but the gist of it seems to support my memory.

All that really means is that any sort of conversion or porting of Destiny to PC, Wii, PS3, will be done by either Bungie or an approved 3rd party developer that is not in direct competition with Activision or any of it's partnered developers. Valve, Epic and Gearbox may not port destiny to PC or PS3.

This doesn't mean that Activision disapproves of the Steam platform as a vendor for Destiny (PC) and all subsequent sequels.

:-)

No you are right. I can see how the mistake was made though, lawyer talk doesn't always make things clear.

Steam is technically just Valve's publishing business. In that part of the contract, they were just talking about conversions of a game to different platforms, and not having it developed by a competitor. Publishing is a whole different story.

If they were making a game for PC/Mac, it would definitely be on Steam. Activision quite often publishes their games via Steam.

Activision already sells quite a few games on Steam, and I don't see why they wouldn't want to sell Destiny on it.

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

I've been needing a reason to move over to PC... It would be nice but the first one will only be on 360 and whatever the next Xbox is.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

I have no idea. Even though I don't use Steam, I hope it is seeming a lot of people would really like it on there.
