Quote from Bungie.net article in Halo 2 Vista.

'Some of these changes include dedicated servers, and the ability to configure online games how you want them rather than having them chosen for you as in the Xbox version'

WOW! Halo 2 might actually be a great game to play now. The one dispicable feature of multiplay has been removed (i.e. Matchmaking), and now we are free to play are own gametypes, with our own weapon types!

AT LAST!

*-*Lets hope they give us the option with Halo 3.*-*

Err, what i find odd is that every single FPS online game i've ever played has always had Dedi at one point...so i always took this as a given with bungie. Why is everybody so hyped about it? Did bungie state something along the lines of "We dont know if we can tweak the netcode enough to allow dedis"?

The big fear was that they use peer to peer (like xbox live) and do away with a dedicated server.

Yeah, many PC games have those customizable features, including Halo (PC), to a certain extent. And may I point out Halo CE? It's a great way to get "our own weapon types!"

Halo Custom Edition: p0lar_bearâ„¢
Favorite Server: Diesel PL 3rd Server - NY

My Maps:
BioHalo v1.1a Singleplayer Map for CE

BUNGIE HAS CUT CUSTOM SINGLE-PLAYER SUPPORT FROM HALO 2 VISTA. COPY, PASTE, AND BOLDFACE THIS INTO YOUR SIGNATURE IF YOU ARE AGAINST THIS CUT.

I just hope they integreate something for the easy use of server extensions and such; I had no problem with the rcon system in CE, but it always took a while to find the nub's player ID if they had a name with random ascii chars, and then type out the command. And god forbid if the server admin changes the rcon password and doesn't notify you.

Here, Here

Give me a button to push to nuke a butthead off my server. I hate typing:

rcon password sv_players
then
rcon password sv_ban 11

Amen to that!

It'd be nice to be able to ban someone from the server logs, so that we can keep Direct IP tkers from rejoining the server.

Or, bungie could get out of the stane age with PC gaming and give everyone a unique ID, like with every other PC game on the planet, that way people with dynamic IPs don't get off free when they're banned. Or, they could just put it on Steam and get the whole unique ID thing combined with a perfect server browser and anti-cheat system...
