In Halo 3 there will be NO other Spartans, BUNGiE already said the game has no relation with the book. In the FAQ...

Uh... Bungie said the Spartan in the trailer was the Master Chief. They did not say that there were no more Spartans left. I am not saying there are, but we simply just do not know.

as I was looking at the main site, it did say that there were knew characters, but not other spartans, but my curiousity is this, is he the last human being left on Earth? If so, we can pretty much guess how the game ends.

  • 06.16.2006 4:40 PM PDT

hey, read the books before you knock them

besides for those of you who havent read the books, MC HATES working alone and can function a hellova lot better w/ the other spartans

and the faq wasnt updated then, because the WWU said that the books exist alongside and corlabborate w/ the games bungie and the authors worked together on the books and games

Halo 2 possibly referenced the other spartans with the line the marine sargent says on metropolis:
"When i called for reinforcements, I diddnt think theyd send A SPARTAN"

But BUNGiE cant do more Spartans since a lot of Halo players have not read the books and have no knowledge of the other Spartans.

waaaaaaaaaaaaa grow up

if they do include elements only found in the books, -gasp-, people will buy the books and since microsoft owns the rights to the books -gasp- they will make more money

another thing. in the first game halo explodes and the MC is traveling alone, and then halo 2 comes along, he is on a ship with other marines and staff and WOW, where the hell did all that come from, you had to read the book to know how he got there, WITHOUT THE BOOKS WHERE WOULD THE BEGINNING OF HALO 2 HAVE CAME FROM??

Nothing will happen. BUNGiE also said there was not going to be any new characters! (Also in FAQ.) Try reading the FAQ before making foolish posts!

Bungie said that the books are cannon to the games, that means they are not 2 different things. The authors worked with Bungie when writing the books, and have the Bungie and Xbox logo.

Example: The Fall of Reach is the official prequel Halo: CE.

The Halo Universe containes alot more than just the games. And since you think the books and games are different, I ask you: Why is Johnson in Halo 2? According to the game he died in Halo: CE?

i totally agree with u dood. Evidence:check. Example:check. Passion:o so many checks. u made a really good point

the books are common to the games, but its not the game....they were made to explain the parts we dont see, and to make some more money aswell.

also, at the end of "the first strike" i seem to remember the last 3 spartans being alive..MC obviously cool, kelly nearly dead in a cryo tube, and kelly who got kidnapped by that doctor woman..... they cant use them and people only want to see them cause they are spartans..kick ass super human augments. if there was more than one, it wouldnt be fair for it would be too easy to do. although it would make co op more interesting to have the extra profiles, but thats besie the point.

lastly, he didnt die, that was a bonus thing put in for comical relief for all those who beat legendary, he didnt die, it was a secret ending that never really took place.

Why would Bungie spend 6 years making the Chief the central character/hero of their biggest franchise and then all of a sudden introduce more Spartans that would ultimately steal the spotlight from him? John is going to save the world, not Fred, Linda or Barney.

What happened in Halo 2? We played as an Arbiter. If there is to be two conflicts (or maybe three) happening in Halo 3...Earth, another Halo, Coral?...Ghosts of Coral can mean it was a Forerunner planet and contains flood, or that it has dead Spartans on it..

Maybe the SPARTANS split up before heading back to Earth because they knew where Kelly and Halsey were going..and something bad happens..if we have around 20 levels as opposed to Halo 2's 10(?)..there will be plenty of room for a few Arbiter missions, and a few Kelly/Linda missions..along with 75% of the total missions being played as the Master Chief.

Stop bringin in Flintstones characters to your arguement, we all know it's your favorite show, on your favorite channel (Nickelodeon), but please..this is for Halo talk.

Bungie already confirmed that there will be NO MORE Spartans did they not?

Bungie did not confirm that there will be no more Spartans.

hmm if writing on the back of the box that he is the last spartan doesnt confirm there will be no more then i dont know what does.

When the events of Halo take place in the Halo universe it is believed that the Master Chief is the last Spartan. Everyone in the Halo Universe thought that he was the last one and that the others died on Reach. We later find out that this is wrong, and that several other Spartans survived.

I will if I want, it was meant for this one anyway. It just so happens that two people on these forums are ignorant enough to think that the Halo novels do not have any effect on the games.

Thats right the metropolis line "A spartan". Also more than 0.3% have read te books, i would say about 35-40%, if you joined these forums in the last year then you wouldnt know much. The books ARE canon to the games, read the top of the front page of the book the fall of reach"Official prequel to halo 1" then you have bungie saying they are canon. NO-WHERE has bungie ever stated that there will or will not be any more spartans. END OF STORY!

Also why are you so against the idea? Its like having marines join you for some time, they do their own thing (unless the ability to control them on some missions).

Read about my gaming here.

I'd say that a 30 second cutscene is more than enough to introduce a new character

Also another place where it prove that the books are canon is found here

And my 2:nd post on the second page has also a little bit of info

I suggest reading this thread, which will show you that the books are canon. How, it has quotes of various Bungie employee's saying so from intereviews etc:

Or you can just look at the books. On Halo: The Fall of Reach, it says, "The official prequel to the award-winning Xbox game!". On Halo: The Flood, it says, "The official novel of the award-winning Xbox game!". And last but not least, Halo: First Strike, it says, "Continuing the saga of the award-winning Xbox game!".

It clearly says that these novel are the official stories to Award-winning Xbox game!, which is Halo: Combat Evolved.

Just for those in this post who are too lazy to read the books, I thought I would just give a quick summary on the current Spartans:

Okay. During the Fall of Reach, at a briefing, Dr. Hasley says that, out of the augmented Spartans over the years, three were killed, and one was severely wounded. In addition, during the meeting on Reach, three Spartans were too far away to be recalled for the battle. This would mean that, out of the 33 augmented spartans, 26 are currently at Reach.

During the fall of Reach, John, James, and Linda went on to a space station, while the rest of the Spartans. During Fall of Reach, we only know what happens on the Station. James is blasted off in to space, with a limited air supply. His status is currently unknown, presumed dead. Linda is shot by multiple plasma bolts, and is near death. When John leaves the station, he takes Linda with him, and places her in a cryo-tube.

From First Strike, we learn what transipred there: After their entry, their pelican was shot down, and they had to jump out. Their impact resulted in 6 being near-immoblilised, and 4 dead. So, 23 were in the pelican, 4 were killed, and 6 were immoblilized. So, that leaves 19 Spartans on Reach's surface. However, it is stated by fred that there were 22 Spartans after the fall, which leads to a few inconsistancies with numbers. Joshua is seen killed by Fred. Eventually, Fred, Kelly, Will, Issac, and Vinh regroup, meet up with Dr. Hasley, and head deep in to the mountains.

After the destruction of Halo, John retrieves a set of cryo-tubes that were ejected from the PoA. Just happens to be Linda's. After capturing the Ascended Justice, the Mc, as well as Johnson and the other survivors of Halo, return to Reach, to find that a region around the equator was not glassed. Upon landing, he met up with Anton, Li, and Grace, who were with Admiral Whitecomb. They then proceeded to go in to the mountain to rescue the other Spartans. By the time they got there, Issac and Vinh were already killed. The rest were evacuated up to the Ascended Justice. During the battle in the semi-slipspace realm, Anton and Li were killed.

So, that leaves John, Kelly, Fred, Will, Grace, and Linda in the Cryotube.

Linda is revived, and they get ready to go on a mission to destroy the unyeilding heirophant. At this point, however, Dr. Hasley kidnaps Kelly and leaves in an ONI scout ship. On the actual mission, Grace was killed by a Brute.

So, the only Spartans that we can confirm that are alive are the MC, Fred, Will, and Linda. It is also likely that Kelly is alive somewhere with Dr. Hasley. That leaves our count at 5.

However, there is still some room for speculation:

> 22 Spartans alive on reach. Subtract Fred, Kelly, Joshua, Anton, Li, and Grace, who we know the status of. Down to 16. Will, Issac, and Vinh were part of the injured 6, so the fact that they were alone means that the other three are dead. Subtract the 6 for all of them. That gets us down to 10. That means that there were 10 spartans on Reach who were not accounted for. These would be the Spartans that were guarding the power generators. Being as the power generators failed, it is very likely that they are dead, but who knows. there is a possibility that some survived, hijacked a ship, and are now in deep space.

> James had a limited amout of time to find a ship. While it is not likely that he did, it is always possible.

> The three Spartans that are too far away to be recalled. Unlike the other speculation, they are actually likely to be alive. At least, as likely as anyone else in the Halo Universe that is not seen. Considering the extreme focus of the Covenant armada, it is likely that they have been too busy gathering their forces, and the thre unrecalled spartans were not involved in any dangerous combat.

> The One injured spartan. This may be in reference to Cassandra, who was seen in Conversations of the Universe. As she was removed from the battlefield, she is definately alive, though not nessecarily combat ready. However, the Conversations of the Universe said that she was looking forward to having skin again, maybe in reference to her armor. So, she may be ready for combat by Halo 3.

So, we have 4 guaranteed alive, including the MC. Kelly is most likely alive, bringing us up to 5. The 3 unrecalled spartans are still out there, and may be alive. So thats 8. Cassandra is there, though may not be combat capable. Thats 9

As for not likely, we have James, plus the 10 Spartans on Reach.

So, thats 9 that are near definate, and 11 that are not likely. So, if Bungie wanted to pull out as many Spartans as possible, they could pull out 20 of them.

And yes, the books are canon. They are written based off of the Halo Bible, which is the exact outline of what happens in the Halo universe. The Halo Bible has more authority than the Halo games themselves. So, that means that the books are legitamate events in the Halo universe.

Wait, so Fred, Linda and Will all end up on the Autumn with the MC? If so then they are very likely to be dead as well.
