No, ExcessiveFaun6 is not my real gamertag.

Cortana: The message just repeats. "Regret, Regret, Regret."
Miranda: Any idea what it means?
Sgt. Johnson: Dear Humanity... we regret being alien bastards. We regret coming to Earth. And we most definitely regret that the Corps just blew up our raggedy-ass fleet!
Marines: Hoo-rah!

I have to say, I feel quite like the outcast. I am always reading in threads about people referencing "respected" or "popular" or even hated members of the B.net community, and occasionally one will even rise above our ranks for a community spotlight of some sort.

Yet I honestly can't name one community member who in my mind stands out from the rest. Maybe I'm just not here enough? I know nobody knows who I am, but there isn't a whole lot of other people either that have distinct name recognition with me.

tl;dr Are there actually prominent members of this community, and I'm just oblivious?

My old Bungie.net account was created February 6, 2008. Unfortunately, I had signed up using my brother's email account (we then shared an Xbox Live account which was linked to my old Bungie.net account), and he changed the password, meaning I couldn't log in. Thus is why I have this account.

There are plenty of prominent members. Back a year or so ago I'd probably be able to name a lot of them, but my activity on these forums has declined.

Yeah, some people are well known.

Just when I thought the community forum couldn't get much more vain.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

You shouldn't feel like an outcast because a ton of people don't know you. In fact, it is probably a good thing.

Some people here get really irritated if they see someone post a lot (even though they complain that the community forum is not very active).

I wouldn't say any member is popular to me, just more recognized then others. I do respect certain members more based on how I know them or their post history, but other peoples opinion of a member means nothing to me. I do think people try way to hard to be known around here, there is a difference in wanting to meet fellow Bungie fans to interact with and wanting to be popular, with the majority falling towards the latter.

Also I clicked on this Thread because I recognized your name.

There are definitely some more prominent characters than others within this community. However, I don't think the same people stand out to everyone, sure there are exceptions, but for the most part, the users I recognise are based on my personal interactions with them, rather than it being 'X user; oh he's popular and respected.'. That's how I see it.

  • 07.27.2012 9:23 AM PDT

Those 'what members do you know?' threads are just ego-boosting sessions for everyone involved, I wouldn't read too much into who gets mentioned and who doesn't.

It's only natural for people with a higher post count to stick out because you see their name/avatar more often.
Just remember that 1 good post contributes more to the forums than 50 average ones.

It seems like 'prominent' is just a synonym (most of the time) for 'unrelenting' when it comes to Bungie.net.

True enough for most forums really.

I recognise your name.

It comes down to how your activity here translates. You can post a ton, and give your opinion out to plenty of threads, but to get the recognition, you gotta do something big. Win a contest for Bungie, make something cool, and all sorts of fun things. There are a few who just happen to be here for a long time, and sometimes that does the job enough on its own.

Twitter | Nothing

Most of the members probably don't recognise or know a lot of the other members. The more involved people will be aware of the more prominent members who are more active.

Sidenote: I've never seen anyone get upset over someone posting a lot. People get plenty mad when a person spams however.

True story. For this thread. At the time, of course, I didn't know who or what "SODMG" was, and lots of people have famous musicians in their gamertags, so I didn't make the connection until I saw a video of him a few days later telling people to add his gamertag if they wanted to get "destroyed" or something in Halo. The reasoning for the ban in his ban message was, literally, "Off-topic; unintelligible; bizarre spam; website advertisement."

There have been a few other celebrities who have posted here. As far as I know, nobody on the "A-list" or anything, but definitely names that you would know. Sometimes they make it known who they are, and sometimes they don't.

As far as well-known community members go, well, I've been around long enough that I know most of the regulars here. I recognize and remember probably a few hundred of the people on these forums whose posts I've noticed over the years, whether for good or for bad reasons (usually good) -- and yes, even you, OP... I remember you from way back in the old school H3 days :-)

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

There are "prominent" members of the community, however, you have to remember its usually perspective.

Indeed. I haven't had XBL for a long time, but I still come on her everyday.

I don't know how to put this ... but I'm kind of a big deal.
