Subject: Automatic Lockings?

This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends;
Not with a bang but a whimper.

When a user is banned for some offense, whether for a day or a year, are their non-offending threads automatically locked? Several times, I have seen an OP who has been blacklisted with their thread locked even though I had already seen the thread and it did not break any obvious rules. When I've asked moderators about this, I have invariably been told to mind my own business (not the most polite response, but understandable). Thus, I am wondering if the moderators have a practice of locking the user's threads or if it is done automatically (which seems somewhat more probable).

I seriously doubt that.

The answer is not a secret, nor is it that complicated. No, threads are not automatically locked when the OP is banned. Threads are locked when on-topic discussion within the forum rules can no longer continue.

Many times, this happens when the OP is banned (even for a different thread) because the thread revolved around information or content that was present in the OP, or because the OP's ongoing input was central and crucial to the thread (such as in a "my computer is broken how do I fix it" thread).

It's as simple as that.

I'm sorry; I should have clarified. When I asked about a specific user being banned for a specific thread, I've been told to mind my own business.

EDIT- And thank you for the clarification.

Threads don't lock when the OP gets banned, but I do feel discouraged to post in a thread when it happens. The title of the thread catches my attention, but if the OP is banned for it I'm like "Damn, I don't want to post here."
