Every time I finish reading First Strike I always get the impression that Kelly likes John a lot (dare I say loves?). She never did learn to properly conceal her emotions, this we know, so what do you guys think?

-Panthers are the best.
-Haters gonna hate.
-Who Dares Wins
-If your one of my real life friends. STOP GOOGLE-ING ME.
XD

I never got that impression as far as i recall, however it has been a while since i last read First Strike.

And OP, I don't know, Kelly is a really cool character who's personality I feel wasn't fleshed out enough.

Sorry to break it to you, but repressed does not mean non-existent.

I always thought it was the other way around, personally.

It's hard to believe even with repression, that over 30ish years they don't engage in any sort of romantic/-blam!- manner.

gooby pls

Because they are in the middle of war.

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

They like family.

I don't think Spartan-IIs are capable of romantic love. They are mentally engineered to be the best soldiers, survival and fighting is all they know. Behind that they do actually care a great deal for people within their circle. Such as Halsey, Mendez and anyone that has earned their respect.

This is dependent on the individual. For example, Linda is more cold. While Kurt is more social and less introverted. It depends on character. But they do ultimately care about other Spartan-II in particular, especially since so many are being "MIA"d it makes each surviving S-II more important.

Since Kelly and John have been on the same team since their inception to Blue team with the exception of Sam. They share a arguably closer bond. It's like a childhood friend thing that cannot be recreated, it's irreplaceable.

She'd respect him to he had no fluids left in his body.
She respects herself nightly thinking of him.

I think we can all agree it is Cortana...

I will admit to having always been a bit of a John/Kelly shipper, hehe ^^' I always felt like their bond could be stretched into romance...especially on Kelly's part.

As a couple other people have said, repressed does not mean non-existent, it just means that they will not have as much of a sex drive as normal people...and it wouldn't even be the same for each individual as everyone has at the very least slight differences in their reaction to chemicals and such. Any of them with a decreased sex drive would have it varying degrees.

And from what I remember reading, it's not even something that was a definite occurrance, it was only a strong possibility. Hell, it wasn't even anything that was intended, it was just a very likely potential side-effect to the augmentations. Some might not even have been effected at all.

I don't know. I think Linda and John seems more realistic. John was so worried when she was practically dead.

I never got that impression from reading the books.... but I suppose its possible. Maybe in a different life John and Kelly might have got together, but I suppose thats the life of a battle-hardened cybernetically enhanced supersoldier for you. Job always gets in the way of their love lives.

  • 07.30.2012 3:07 AM PDT

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

While I wouldn't go quite as far to say there is some romantic spark between them (imagine the fan fictions...), there is certainly some kind of affection there. I even kind of got this impression in Halo Legends: The Package, but I don't think that the idea of a romance could properly work for a character like John. I just can't see him actually living in the world he's fighting for.
